Notre Dame (football only discussion)

I'm not among those who would claim that Ohio State is better or that they deserve to play in the NC game, in fact, quite the opposite. So, those comparisons become a bit of a straw man argument, no?

The point is that Notre Dame went undefeated and, just as the Buckeyes do, deserves recognition for what they achieved. In fact, this year's achievement came against stronger opposition than they usually face in the form of Stanford, Oklahoma on the road and USC on the road. They played well when they had to, got lucky when they needed to, scored when they needed to, held when they needed to, and so did the Buckeyes.

I will still root against them regardless of who they play in their bowl game.

I agree. Recognize them with a BCS bowl, but not the NC game. The Buckeyes don't deserve to play in the NC game either.

Kelly has really started his "Teo for Heisman" push, saying something to the effect of "If he doesn't get it, they should just call it an offense only award."

Right. Because, Teo has so clearly been the best player at his position all season long. What's that? He's a very good player, benefiting from the ND hype machine? Isn't way better than any other LB's in the country?

Well, I for one hope Kelly gets his way and Teo wins, seeing as Kelly has been know to kill people.

the ONLY reason that the Buckeyes don't deserve it is tattoo-gate.

This. Saying Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the National Title Game because of how they have played this year is foolish. They ran the table and won all of their games. There are only two undefeated teams in the FBS, and it's Notre Dame and Ohio State.

I'll agree that Te'o doesn't have monster state when comparing him to other LBs around the country. Yeah, he leads in INTs, but at tackles he's just over 100, which is nothing new. Te'o certainly has benefited from the ND success this year, and I don't think he'll end up winning it personally, but he's been kind of a feel good story. With a recent history of controversy with the award after Newton and Bush, Manti is a guy that says all the right things and has been highly praised in interviews for his character and humbleness. While he arguably may not be the best player at his position this year, he's a fantastic leader on and off the field, the kind of player that makes the teammates around him better, and the kind of individual that Notre Dame has lacked for some time. He's a big reason for the turn around on defense for this program, and he'll be sorely missed next year I can tell you.

Maybe I am alone in this one, but I will be rooting for Notre Dame, I think Kelly is a great coach and I am just so sick of hearing about the SEC streak, and if that means I have to spend a year hearing about how ND is the national champs, I'll take that.

I think Shazier had more tackles than Te'o this year. Someone posted that on here I think

If Suh didn't deserve it a couple of years ago, then Teo should not even be invited to NY, IMO. He is Top 10-15 in the country at LB, but not heisman worthy by any stretch.

For me, it is Manziel's to lose, but many won't vote for him because he is a Freshman.

No way I'll be caught dead rooting for the Domers. The Declan Sullivan incident, the Elizabeth Seeberg cover up..they are almost as bad as Penn State as an institution imo.

Yeah the SEC bit is getting annoying, but let it be the 2013 Buckeyes that dethrone those jerk offs.

Lesmerises used Troy Smith as an example of how "Best player on best team" is a strong case for the Heisman, referencing Troy's rather ordinary statistics.

Here's where that falls apart: Troy directly led to wins, regardless of his stats. It wasn't that he was "a great leader/character guy blah blah", it was that he directly impacted multiple games in such a way that it pulled the Buckeyes out of the fire.

Teo hasn't had that same impact, at least not often. While I agree that he's been a great leader and so on, he hasn't been much better than AJ was in 2005.

AJ - 121 tackles
Manti - 103 (Still has another game)

AJ - 16.5 TFL
Manti - 5.5

AJ - 9.5 sacks
Manti - 1.5

The only thing Manti has done better is getting INT's, with 7 so far. Very impressive, to be sure.

Now, I know it isn't 2005 and yaddah yaddah, but if AJ finished 6th in the Heisman voting (I think...that was a long time ago ), I don't see how Manti deserves to beat Manziell, Klein, hell even Braxton.
