Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Not to worry. All you guys that have been rooting against the Irish will get it right in January. Wouldn't want you to change now. :wink2: Just glad it's not going to be another SEC vs. SEC matchup and just hope the Irish force Bama or Georgia to play their game like they have all season. The game will at least stay reasonable that way.

I was thinking that too. I was rooting for USC but towards the end I realized that if the irish lost it would likely be a Florida-'Bama title game. Ain't nobody be wantin' that [Mark May].

Kelly's postgame interview was laughable. USC, with a raw QB, tested ND.

Kelly may try to explain close wins against lowly opponents as their style and choice, in the interview, but a good team will destroy these guys.

Back? Relevant? Nonsense.

The problem is that a B1G team needs to knock them off next year or we will be told how they "deserve" another chance. They will get a lot of recruiting momentum this year. College football needs to put a dagger in this now.

Well, Kelly could have taken the low road and said SC quit in the game like they said of the Irish last year. :wink2: I think he did the smart thing and gave the expected response and didn't add any fuel to the fire for next year.

As far as close wins, I think it can be said again that this team is similar to that 2002 Buckeyes team. The Irish haven't blown out as many teams, but it's been a fairly difficult road that most predicted would yield 4 losses or more at the beginning of the season.

Regarding a good team destroying the Irish, I won't argue. Certainly theres been some teams that haven't lived up to expectations, especially USC. The Irish have had a habit of forcing teams to play their game though. Namely, they'll give you the easy yards, not often giving up the big plays like they used to, and knuckle down at the goal line. On offense they haven't been stellar, but they've ground out a lot of long drives with the running game and eat clock like crazy. It hasn't resulted in a lot of points, but the basic idea is very much like Tresselball is it not? "Winning games with just enough scoring and strong defense."

Next year the B1G will get at least one win against the Irish. Notre Dame will be starting at least 3 new offensive linemen I think, Eifert's gone, Theo and Wood are both gone I think (Wood may have a possible 5th, but I don't think will take it). On defense we'll lose 3 of our front 7 I think including Manti, and our only senior in the secondary, Motta, that was uninjured and had previous experience going into the year. Needless to say there will be a lot of players starting for the first time next year, and the schedule will be just as tough or tougher. I don't see a way we'll be able to run the table in September again with so many untested guys.

They did beat a 10-2 Stanford team and a 9-2 Oklahoma team at Oklahoma. I would not say those are great teams they beat, but they did win the games. Unlike Georgia who lost to South Carolina, or Alabama who lost to Texas A&M. I don't like it, but thats the way it is.

What, did they give up 49 to Indiana? Did they squeak by Sparty and need overtime to get past Purdue? I grudgingly give them credit for an undefeated season that included wins over three Big 10 teams, Stanford, Oklahoma - in a total blowout- and USC.

All those years of top recruiting classes finally paid a dividend.

Roll Tide.

I'm not among those who would claim that Ohio State is better or that they deserve to play in the NC game, in fact, quite the opposite. So, those comparisons become a bit of a straw man argument, no?

I'd much rather have UGA win their next two games than let either Bama or ND claim another title.
