Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Anybody here so much as a peep more about the academic problems? The Fighting Teflons pull another one out late in the game.

Would you rather that ND magically cleared the players for the Michigan game this week (Not that they needed them it seems)? I think you would agree that many programs would have swept this one under the rug considering it's not an NCAA investigation, it's all internal at this point. The media asked Kelly about the academic suspensions, but it sounds like there's no definitive information from the Academic side. The Athletic department can't really do anything about it, so their hands are tied.

Supposedly the investigation was finished this week, but no one knows if/when the committee will meet to determine if there's possible punishments for some players or to clear others. The general rumors are that 2-3 of the 5 players may have been fine, and the other 2-3 will be facing some punishment. Considering 4 of the 5 were starters or in the two deep, losing any of them would hurt, but fortunately the underclassmen have stepped up to fill holes nicely this season. Austin Collinsworth, who was projected to start at safety, is also out with an MCL injury right now so we're pretty strained in the secondary.

From what I understand they notified the NCAA that they may have an issue with some players, but they're not required to do more than that. A 3rd party conducted the investigation I believe despite it being an internal honor code issue.

I think one of the issues is... why isn't it an NCAA investigation?
To which I'd point at Miami. ND is a private institution, and can just refuse to provide information.

But they are a member of the NCAA and have to abide by its rules and its requests for information. Any institution, public or private, can tell the NCAA to go fuck themselves. They'll just have to deal with the consequences, or in the case of Auburn, no consequences. Sometimes, I think the BIG and PAC should just say fuck it and pull out. Tell Texas, UVA and a couple of other schools that they can either join us or swim in the filth of an NCAA that would then be run out of the SEC offices.

All I know is that the academic fraud at ND seems to be pervasive enough as to warrant an NCAA investigation.

Legally there's a difference between "I refuse to cooperate at all, even though I signed this legal document saying I would" ... and ... "Sure, just give me 2 weeks to put all the material together. There's so much of it, you know. Oh that shredder? That's nothing...."
Two weeks later hand them a lot of small piddly stuff and self-sanction or suspend players for 1 or 2 games, while covering up everything else.

BK was just on the Herd. He was asked about the academic investigation. The investigation seems to be wrapped up, but the hearings haven't occurred yet. They hope to schedule them this week.

Nothing good takes this long to resolve, that's the general feeling.

It's alright, I understand there are those that don't care for the Irish. I guess I'm in a unique position having grown up in Ohio as an Irish fan. I've got a number of ND grads in the family as well as season ticket holders, but to be honest I've got nearly as many OSU alumni in the family. If you consider I've married into a family Buckeye fans, those ties are even stronger. I'd really like to take the father-in-law to The Game someday. I genuinely like tOSU and wouldn't root against them except for those very rare cases when they meet the Irish. I've always seen the common hatred of Michigan as a bonding agent, however I get that some Buckeyes don't feel that way and are happy to root against both the Irish and the Weasels.

As far as Kelly, I think we can all appreciate when he goes purple, it can be entertaining for anyone that isn't a player I guess. If it's any consolation, ND's new DC is like the energetic, positive antithesis to Kelly.

Darn that rotten luck! There's no definitive information from the academic side and as a consequence the athletic department's hands are tied. If only some party to this investigation could catch a break.
