Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Don't want to be made fun of by the Stanford band? Don't play Stanford. That is just pure fucking domer arrogance in their howls of manufactured outrage that nobody must dare make fun of them in any way. Next time those assholes go to Stanford, I hope the band turns their dials to 11 and goes after the real issues: dead students, sexual assaults and systemic academic fraud.

With all the Michigan Man bull[Mark May] going on, I almost lost sight of the fact of how exponentially worse the domers are with regards to arrogance, self-righteousness and hypocrisy.
An animated band formation of a scissor lift comes to mind.

It's arrogant not to allow Stanford's "band" to play in your stadium? Must be a lot of arrogant teams out there considering the number of venues they've been banned at in the past. Notre Dame isn't the first school to ban them, although some schools have allowed them to return at a later date. They're also banned from Disneyland, and they can't participate in the Rose Bowl parade without advance review by the Rose Bowl committee. I'm not going to say Notre Dame doesn't deserve to get poked at for their mistakes, but the Stanford band's antics certainly don't just extend towards Catholics. They're an equal opportunity offender, they can and will embarrass themselves at any school they travel to.

Nothing wrong with satire, but it's hard to take seriously when they also play like crap. It stops being witty to just being juvenile.
Same reason I doubt they'd touch those issues - it's not a serious thing, just a smack talk thing (which is fine and entertaining in its own right).

Notre Dame has been moving like slugs with a resolution to the academic investigation. Reports that the investigation wrapped up in late August, however they're just getting to the hearings for the students and athletes involved this week. The players have been fairly mum when it comes to criticizing the process (Except for Davaris Daniels and his father), now KeiVarae Russell has spoken out. By his account he seems to be innocent on his side, although the committee could certainly see it differently and hand down some punishment. At this point the players have missed 4 games already, and their hearings were pushed back multiple times because professors involved in the process rescheduled.

Over the years there's often been comments that there are members of the faculty and administration that try to undermine football related activities and would like nothing more than to see the football program go away. Professors have been known to comment how traffic on game day Saturdays makes it difficult to get to the library and other campus locations, among other complaints. Requests from certain professors to delay the hearings has been seen as part of that movement to undermine the program.

Russell's hearing was last night and he sounds confidant he was in the clear. Eilar Hardy and Ishaaq Williams will be before the committee tonight, followed by Davaris Daniels and Kendall Moore Friday. Final rulings won't happen until all 5 players have appeared before the committee, making it unlikely that they'll play against Stanford making it a 5th missed game. There's also some speculation that other students involved may push the ruling back till next week or later. There's also an appeals process if the players decide to go that route.

Overall there's been a lot of criticism directed toward the Office of General Consul for taking over a month and a half to get the hearings done. Whatever final rulings come down, whether players are all guilty, innocent, or only some are found guilty, it's going to look bad for Notre Dame. The amount of time taken for due process will reflect negatively on the University, more so for any students or players that may be found not guilty. It certainly will affect recruiting, I can't imagine future players would enjoy being in limbo with limited contact regarding their cases when they see guys like Jameis Winston receiving swift one game suspensions and resolutions.

Here's the article regarding Russell speaking out: http://espn.go.com/college-football...ivarae-russell-notre-dame-becoming-ridiculous
I started to read this then realized the I don't give two shits about notes dame.

Found out today that KeiVarae Russell's hearing didn't go quite as well as he seemed to think. He was one of the 5 players for Notre Dame that was suspended for an academic honor code issue. He's also considered to be the best of the 5 players that were suspended, originally slated as a starting CB and probably the only real lock down corner ND has had in at least 10 years. He announced that he won't be playing the 2014 season at all, he may be back for 2015. No announcements on the other 4 players yet, but this one was certainly a blow as he was the best player in the secondary the Irish would have had for this season, and probably the best player on defense.

If the WR would have acted like he ran a route or threw his arms up he may have accomplished his task.

I have seen ND fans on FB showing a picture of the DB extending his arms a yard off the LOS. They claim that is the real penalty. What am I missing?

In high school and college, the defender may make contact with the receiver as long as the receiver is in front of the defender. These provisions end when the pass is in the air. (per wiki). So the DB can make contact with the WR as long as the ball isn't in the air. In the case of last night's penalty, not one but two WRs were actually blocking their DBs when the ball was in the air...
