Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

I agree with that were this the only case. There does seem to be a systemic pattern to all the cheating going on at ND. A lot of smoke for it not to somehow be condoned and possibly organized.

Plus, it lays bare the ridiculous notion that ND doesn't wade into the shallow end of the SAT pool for football players like every other big time school out there. Plus it's ND. When the most sanctimonious, holier-than-thou football school out there gets into trouble (AGAIN), I'm going to slow down and gawk at the wreckage. I have to admit though that Kelly is the frickin' teflon Don. What does he have to do to be held responsible for ANYTHING that goes on in his program? Does he have pics of the head priests diddling little boys?

I'm not going to pretend that ND hasn't taken some borderline kids in recent years. There's been a few that had to leave shortly after they got on campus because they weren't going to cut it according to ND admissions. Hell, Holtz certainly took his fair share of players years ago too, some of them wouldn't get through admissions today.

I think it's a stretch to say there's a systemic issue as it regards to cheating though. If there is such an issue, it's certainly not confined just to Notre Dame. I typically spend time on a couple different boards, not just Irish and Buckeye ones. You of course know I'm over at the Shag at least part of the time. I've seen a number of posters on other boards admit that they've either spent time in college athletics or as tudors for athletes. Some schools are more likely worse than others, but this kind of stuff happens all over the place. It's no secret that there are some universities that admit kids with 5th grade reading levels, and these kids aren't writing 10 page papers all by themselves. They'll get assistance writing papers, and while their name is on the paper, they haven't necessarily done most of the work. I've seen claims from TA&M alumni, NC of course, Central Michigan, Florida, and yes tOSU. I'm not here to point fingers, I'm just providing examples. Just because the schools aren't coming out and reporting it doesn't mean it's not happening.

If the seasons are forfeited I believe that makes Michigan #1 in all time wins again.

Yeah, I was thinking about posting that in the Mo thread. Pretty cool for him to come to campus and talk to the team. He's had an amazing turn around in his life, and it's good to see things are going his way. Heard that he really connected well with Irish RBs Greg Bryant (posted in the 2nd picture on the right) and Tarean Folston.

I don't think Kelly's academic record at UC was that bad...and Pike's first two years were under Dantonio. So if blame for him not being close to a degree after five years, I would think that Coach D would share some of that blame...though, I would place most of that on the kid. Coaches aren't/shouldn't be academic advisors. at some point the 20 year old needs to grow up...

or pay somebody to write their papers like they do at ND. :)

Tony Pike barely went to class once Kelly was the coach. There were plenty of meetings not just with professors but with the heads of departments to find ways for Pike to make up work at the last minute to stay eligible. He wasn't the only player and the coaches knew these guys weren't going to class.

My high school and college coaches weren't academic advisors but they made sure their players were going to class. In fact every DI program has academic advisors that work for the athletic department. It's up to the coaches (position and head) to enforce and take action with the information they are given.
