Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

If there has ever been a bigger complete waste of talent, I would like to see it. So sad, but very predictable.
Agreed! Issues with mental health that he could never get in control and it became his downfall. He needed help a long time ago, but got fame and adulation. He lived such a crazy, sordid life that is far from what anyone could imagine from a player that at one time was one of the most dangerous(on the field) with the ball in his hands. That backfield with he and Frazier is legendary!

He did <allegedly> kill a fella.

My mom just recently retired last year as a corrections officer. She said that there's still a code of jailhouse justice in prison.

Basically, you take from the piper, you have to eventually pay him.

There's a book out there from the outgoing President of Kansas State University, Jon Wefald, that details a lot of his time in Manhattan. From the Lincoln Journal-Star's Brian Christopherson, he tweeted a Kansas City Star interview that Wefald had done with columnist Blair Kerkhoff.

In the book, Wefald documents his time with Kansas State and gives a good recollection about his Presidency which ended in 2009 after 23 years.

During his time, Wefald was around for the transition from the Big Eight to the current Big Twelve Conference, and he had some interesting quotes that Nebraska Cornhuskersfans should be paying attention to.

Primarily, it is his statements about then University of Texas President Bob Berdahl in several issues that should point to how Nebraska has seen their relationship with the Big 12 Conference, then and now.

For the record, Berdahl was the President of the University of Texas from 1993-97, then, later on, the President of the Association of American Universities from 2006-2011.

On forming the Big 12:

Wefald was Chairman of the Association of Big Eight schools in 1990, when the college sports landscape started trembling. Over the next couple of years, the Big Ten, Southeastern and Atlantic Coast conferences expanded. The Southwest Conference was wobbling and the Big Eight needed to change or would be left behind.

Initially, Wefald talked about a merger of the 16 schools. But on a conference call in February 1994, Wefald recalled then-Texas president Bob Berdahl shaping the league. "’Here is what we decided,’" Wefald quoted Berdahl. "’We encourage the Big 8 Conference to invite Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor and Texas to form a new conference.’"

Wefald: "For four years, I had hoped we could convince Texas to join the Big 8. I did not want to ask Bob Berdahl any questions about the fate of Rice, Houston,SMU and TCU. I knew there was only one difference between K-State and them: we were in the Big 8."

Cont'd ...

Where in the heck do you go? I grew up there and never once had anyone say a word to me. Well, the TTUN and ND "fans" that chose their team based on being different or religious preference say stuff, but what do you expect from those fan bases?
Probably to Uncle Woody's on Taft and right across the street from the UC campus and dorms.

However, during football season most of the UC kids are also Buckeye fans thanks to Cooper, Tressell and Meyer. They've turned what used to be recruiting hell into a steady stream to talent heading to Columbus.

I've talked about this for years on Husker forums. Basically, the Athletic Directors at KSU, Kansas & Iowa State conspired to marginalize and contain Nebraska with the complicity of Texas and the SWC refugees. There's a pretty good interview of Wefald from the Manhattan (KS) Mercury where he describes their motivation for creating the conference. There were several votes on things that set up the Big XII, and on a few of them the votes went 11-1 against things that would harm Nebraska. That conference was never set up to be fair, it was set up to favor certain schools over Nebraska. I'm thinking their hope was that, with nowhere to go but Independent, Nebraska would just sit there and take it like a pet on a leash.

I've been hugely happy with Nebraska's membership in the Big Ten these past five years. It's insane to me to see people who wish we could go back to the Big XII. It's like an abused spouse returning to their abuser. Thankfully, those people who want to go back to the Big XII are dwindling in number every day.

The Big Ten feels like a natural fit for Nebraska - way more than the Big XII.

@wideouts for the win. #DrRoute #RouteGeometry is pretty rich for a guy who just picked up his 3rd DUI.

Breaking: Police say they pulled Williams over after seeing him drive erratically. The arresting offer mapped his path:

Nebraska WR coach Keith Williams suspended, will miss first 4 games

Nebraska wide receivers coach Keith Williams has been suspended without pay until Aug. 31 and will miss the Cornhuskers' first four games after his arrest early Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence and careless driving.

Williams, who was cited following a traffic accident in Lincoln, Nebraska, has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.

Nebraska coach Mike Riley said in a statement released Friday that Williams has started counseling and will assist the university in education and outreach about drunken-driving prevention. Lincoln police officers responding to Sunday's accident found records of two previous DUI convictions for Williams in 2004 and 2009.

Williams, 45, is in his second season at Nebraska, where he has built a reputation as a top recruiter. He will not be allowed to coach or attend the Huskers' games against Fresno State, Oregon, Wyoming and Northwestern.

"The dangers of driving while under the influence are well documented and Keith's conduct was reckless and potentially fatal," Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst said in a statement. "He has acknowledged his failings and accepted responsibility. Keith is a well-respected and trusted member of the Husker Family and we will support him in the coming days and weeks to strengthen his life. It is my hope that he uses this incident as a turning point and as an opportunity to teach our student-athletes, staff and greater community about making the right decisions."

In a statement, Williams expressed "deep regret" and "profound remorse" for the incident and apologized to Riley, Eichorst, Nebraska chancellor Ronnie Green and University of Nebraska president Hank Bounds.

"I understand there is no room for error for me at Nebraska and I am going to work hard every day to prove that I am worthy to represent the Huskers," Williams said.

Awaiting blue hair implosion in 3.....2......1.....
