NBA Finals - Celtics vs. Lakers

I have a never seen a thread with so much bitching and moaning...

Yeah the home team gets calls...It is the nature of the beast...It happens in every freakin' sport...

Don't understand the Cavs fan in the thread, continuing to say that Celtics suck...Their actions are making your words look like you are a fraud...At some point you have to step back from the keyboard...

For everyone this isn't going to be a sweep, the Lakers are too good, they have good players, the Celtics play great at home, and they played probably some of the best basketball they could play in those first two games...

I still think the Celtics win, due to mismatches and still think there is a solid chance this one goes 7...Kinda leaning towards 6 now as I think the Celtics will get one in LA...

one more thing, never count out a champion like Kobe until he is dead...Even if he looks like he is on life support...

Yeh, it's human nature. The thing is, the refs are human beings, the emotion flooding from the crowd is going to effect their judgment. Shit happens, people are people and all that jazz... The thing with me is this: sure, the difference in free throws was 38 to 10, but the reality is I don't think that if the free throws were even the Lakers would have been able to stage the comeback at the end that will build energy for game 3. Look, if that game is close, the Lakers don't take those chances at the end, nor do the Celtics. Sure the Lakers lost, but they do have something to build on.

No comment, actually, no idea.

Well, I am going to say this, it depends on how the Lakers react. Everyone is pointing to Bostons handling of Kobe Bryant, but what it really comes down to IMO, is Kobe's performance in his last finals appearances. He had his worst games in his career against Detroit in 2004, he's not faired well against the Celtics, and he's pushing himself instead of trusting his teammates. If he does this tomorrow, they will lose, and if they lose tomorrow, the Parade planned in Boston for Saturday... well :(

I still think the Celtics win, due to mismatches and still think there is a solid chance this one goes 7...Kinda leaning towards 6 now as I think the Celtics will get one in LA...
I am not going to disagree, but I will say, the Lakers have been a great home team in the playoffs, and the Celtics have struggled on the road. If Odom can show up, and the bench can perform, they can take all three at home, but it will take a "perfect storm."

one more thing, never count out a champion like Kobe until he is dead...Even if he looks like he is on life support...
He needs to play like he did in the regular season, but so far he's only done that for 4 quarters in two games, instead of 8. He goes the first half, passes the ball around, the in the second half loses the "team player" aspect and reverts to his old ways.

Game one, they played a great first half, then in the second half he started trying to get his points, in game 2, same thing, but the first quarter he got into foul trouble and in the fourth it was a valiant effort, but it was too late.

The Lakers need to play the game they played in the last 30 games of the season, getting up the court early, passing the ball around, Kobe driving like he was going for a shot and dishing the ball out. That will work against this Celtics team, Boston is willing to commit 3 players to Kobe if he tries anything, but he needs to trust his teammates, if he doesn't do that, then KG will be spitting on the Logo in Staples center on Thursday.

Edit afterwards:

You know, I've gotten messages and what-not that I am not a real Lakers fan or whatever. And I think it's kind of stupid, I understand there's a lot of Lakers and Celtics fans here and the Celtics fans want to take their shots, and honestly, I don't really care. The thing that frustrates me, is the Lakers fans.

Look guys, I know everyone is looking at this series, but I am looking at three things, the beginning of this season, right now, and next year. This is the L.A. Lakers, not the Miami heat, we don't build for right now, we build for the long run. Here's what I am saying, we are missing a key component. GASOL IS NOT A CENTER, and it shows this series. When we had Bynum we were more physical, more defensive, and it showed, with Gasol we score more points, but he's a forward, he doesn't like to get hit.

Bynum is a product of the Lakers environment, look, Kareem was in the era where you could fight, and it was well known, that if you went there, he would lay you out. When we played Boston the first time, Garnett got into Bynums face and told him he would "fuck him up" and after Andrew backed down, Kareem told him that if he did that again, he was going to get that same reaction either way.

The reason I picked the Celtics isn't about Kobe, or the bench, the coach or anything like that, it's that we are what the Kings were when we beat then in the finals, a "Jelly Donut" we are soft in the center. Offensively, we are great, defensively, we are good, but Boston is the other way around, thier offense is good, the defense is great.

Look, I hope we win this championship, but understand, if we lose, we are missing a major ingredient in our recipe.

You think it's bad now? Wait until the Celtics lose a game in this series, and you'll see post after post of this...

can we get any foul calls? The amount of foul shots Cleveland has shot to Boston is unbelievable.......

I wonder if this person had a problem with Boston's 38-10 free throw advantage in game 2. Probably not.

This stat is insane......LeBron has shot more free throws than the whole Boston team.......there is no way a road team can win when that happens.....unbelievable.

I wonder if this person thought it was insane that Leon Powe shot more free throws than the entire Laker team in game 2. At least Lebron is a starter.

Curt Schilling said:
Schilling also expressed shock over Kevin Garnett getting a technical foul "because he said the F word, period." He describes the referee explaining to Garnett's teammates, "I can't let him talk to me that way."
"What?" Schilling writes. "Dude, you're an NBA official, not the stinking pope. Not one person in the arena paid 1 cent of their ticket to see you; ref the game and shut your pie hole."

Can someone from a different sport get fined for slaying the refs?

The calls will even out over the course of the series...it always does....L.A. has not been aggressive and that is one of the reasons they have been a step late on defense.....I expect L.A. to come out trying to run Boston off the court in the first quarter....Boston was on the other end of these non calls during the Cleveland series...it happens. Lost in the babble about the officiating and the rims is simply that Boston has played harder than L.A. Also, anyone seen Lamar Odom? Milk carton maybe.

Why Boston is leading 2-0...

1. Rebouding (both offensive and defensive)
2. home court
3. Bench production

It is that simple....

I believe these last two posts are mine from game 6 of the Cleveland series....for all of you L.A. fans.....it seems Boston was not getting the calls in the Cleveland series.....it will even out.

As far as Powe shooting more free throws than L.A.....it was insane but it happened....and since I am a Boston fan I have no problems with + 28 at the free throw line....

Well the rebounding was a lot better in game 2, but yeah, Odom has just vanished in this series. Gasol had a good first half to game 2, but he's not really a banger. Bynum was a great addition while we had him, he was great at rebounding, he was physical, and the reality of the Lakers is this, our championships come when we have 2 elements, a great guard and a dominant center. Look at the rafters, guards, Magic, West; centers, Wilt, Kareem, and soon Shaq.

The Lakers have never really been a finesse team, they have been physical, but this team is different. If the Lakers want to win some games they are going to have to drive the paint, and be prepared for a physical battle. Until that happens, the Celtics are going to sit in the paint and let the Lakers try outside shots.

i expect at some point tonight..kobe will revert to himself and start taking every shot..esp. if the lakers trail...

If it looks like trouble, yeah, you'll see him take over. But I'd be surprised if LA, as a team, didn't come out smoking in the first quarter.

Of course, I was surprised when LA came out so flat in the third quarter of Game 2. So we'll see...

some reason LA seems to start out slow at home....the spurs jumped on them in game one up 20 and then in game 5 they were up 17....

At the beginning of the playoffs, Boston wasn't playing great basketball. Ray Allen was in a slump and their bench wasn't contributing a lot. But they've been on a roll lately and are now playing very well. The Celtics have won 5 out of their last 6 in the playoffs and 2 of those wins are on the road. Ray Allen is back in mid-season form and the bench has come alive. This has taken the pressure off of stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and as a result their shooting percentage is much better. In order to come back and win this series, the Lakers need to elevate their game in all respects. In particular, the bench needs to start contributing more and they need to rebound better. They also need to play better perimeter defense. cbf40 might be right about the match-up problems, but I still fear this Lakers team because I know how well they can play when they are all focused and playing as a team (see games 4 and 5 vs. SA).

(But in the deepest recesses of my mind, I'm wondering if Phil can still coach at the highest level. The man is a sure hall-of-famer, but a small part of me says it might be time for him to hang it up.)
