NBA Finals - Celtics vs. Lakers

(But in the deepest recesses of my mind, I'm wondering if Phil can still coach at the highest level. The man is a sure hall-of-famer, but a small part of me says it might be time for him to hang it up.)

Phil is still a great coach...He turned Bynum in to a good player...He has turned Kobe into a more complete player...

The problem is matchups...A coach can only do so much, and you can have a great team, but there is always a weakness, and sometimes another team just hurts you more than you can make up in those weaknesses, which is why you see Phil trying to double team, play Ariza, etc...He just hasn't found the stopper, and don't think he is going to find it...At this point they can only hope that Boston starts missing their great looks some...

i would like to bring this debated subject up...who is better kobe or lebron....i say lebron for a few reasons:

1. he is a MUCH better leader than kobe...kobe curses his teammates out..throws them under the bus...james seems to be a positive guy to play with

2. his post up game and his willingness to go to the rim....face it kobe is a great outside shooter...lebron is getting better with the outside game....but james is a beast to handle

3. he is flat out a better defender...not even in the same league here

4. how far would kobe have gotton with the cavs talent?

i watched boston play both these guys this season in the playoffs...lebron gave boston mosre problems than kobe has so far

You're going out on a very thin limb here. If all you saw of Lebron's defense was that Celtics' series, then I suppose I can see how you made this mistake. And I love Lebron's offensive game more than Kobe's because he's the best I've ever seen taking it to the rim. But his defensive consistency is poor, even though you caught a glimpse of the improvement and the potential.

all i know is cleveland's team D was a ton better than LA's and james was a big part of that

on ball defending, Kobe is WAY better...not even close.

Off the ball, every player in the NBA would love to have LeBron there to wipe out mistakes. LeBron does play good help-side D and changes a lot of shots and intimidates guys at the rim.

But a majority of people would say Kobe, just b/c Kobe is much better playing his man.

Cleveland HAD to play great defense to get where they got. It was their only chance. The Lakers made the Finals by outscoring everyone - highest scoring team in the playoffs.

The first two games showed LA can't win the title just trying to outscore the Celtics. If they can turn up the defense at home, they can get right back in this series. If they continue to allow the C's to drive to the hoop, and give Pierce open threes, they'll be lucky to even go back to Boston.

Tonight's game should answer that question. LA has to have it.

Everyone knows I think that LBJ is more valuable player to his team than Kobe...

I just don't think that LBJ has him in two categories you have up there...Leadership and Defense (closer than some would say)...

Kobe has turned into a great leader...LBJ is getting there and will be a great one in two years and I have seen LBJ yell at his teammates as well, it goes with the territory...Jordan used to fight with his teammates...

LBJ might be more valuable on defense as he can defend more guys, but if Kobe is on a guy at his position he can shut him down...Kobe struggles guarding bigger guys for example Paul Pierce or LBJ...LBJ can guard 4 positions if need be...

In terms of basketball skill, all around game I think LBJ is better and more valuable to his team as he has a more all around game, not just a great scorer...kobe has him on jump shot tho...

The refs and the foul shot discrepancy has totally reversed , as expected, this is one reason why the NBA has lost credibility, they are all about entertainment and not the game.
Appears to be total Homerism on the refs part.

Well, I am not happy with the first half, seeing as how it's the same exact points we were up in game one and managed to screw it up, but I am impressed with the energy, we are actually defending the ball and taking it inside, which is what they should be doing. However, even with all this good play, the Celtics are still in an a position to steal this game, since the third quarter has been a bitch for the Lakers.

On the other side of the coin, that block that KG had on Gasol was fucking amazing, I said out loud "that has to be a foul..." but I saw it and I have to give props, that guy is the best forward in the game right now, and is in the top 3 in NBA players.

Here's hoping we have a good second half.

Kinda my take on the game too but obviously I feel a little differently about it. I expected the Lakers to come out and play more aggressively on both ends of the floor. They did, but Boston managed to hang around & give themselves a shot in the second half. I'll take it.

everything we expected...FT's highly slanted to the home team and the laker bench playing more comfortable at home...pierce and KG need to show up...but i think most people figured the lakers would get this game...no surprises so far
