When asked about the subject at a post-practice interview session Thursday, C.J. Stroud admitted “I’ll probably have to think about it a little more,” but ultimately articulated his stance that players and coaches should receive some of that money.

“Just off rip if I would say yes,” Stroud said. “I think coaches as well, like we're not – I feel like this game is definitely amazing, especially in the college atmosphere, because it still does have amateurism to it. I mean they're paying for our school, so I mean, that's definitely a plus. But at the same time, I'm not 100% sure what our tuition is, but I'm sure it's not the worth of how much we're actually worth. So me personally, my mom has always taught me to know my worth.”

.
“Frankly, they're already getting a piece of the television revenue,” Smith said. “You know, when you aggregate in – you're all familiar with our circle of care and all the people that we put around our student-athletes – and trainers, strength coaches, sports psychologists, nutritionists, academic counselors, just keep going around the list. And that's how we fund those positions. That's how we fund this building. That's how we fund this new field. That's how we fund a new field in the stadium. That's how we fund security that we'll need for 103,000 people in our stadium and maybe 30,000 outside for the tailgating.

“So they actually already get a piece. It might not be directly in their pocket, but it's an investment in them.”

According to the club’s website, more than 75 Ohio State football players are expected to participate.

Per the club’s website, fans who commit at least $25 per month to the club will receive a Chase Young jersey while fans who commit at least $100 per month will be invited to a steak dinner with players.

There are more Ohio State fans than fans of any other team according to a recent study. If the CNC doesn't raise more money than any other such thing, that will absolutely be used against Ohio State in recruiting. Some will say that we shouldn't have to give, that they should be paid by the people who are making money from Ohio State football. This is a completely valid argument. It is also completely irrelevant. No one will care. The only thing that the recruits will see is that Ohio State fans don't support their team as well (per capita) as other fans do. Others will say that anyone who ponies up money to the CNC is a sucker. Depending on how you define your terms, this might be a completely valid position. It is also completely irrelevant. The only thing that recruits will see is that Ohio State fans don't support their team as well (per capita) as other fans do. Is any of that fair? No, not fair at all. But this is the real world, where fairness is very much beside the point. If you ever complain about recruiting ever again, and you're not giving to the CNC, then like it or not, you have to look in the mirror and accept that some of the blame is yours. Is that fair? Not even a little, but it's a fact, and you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.

these are the kinds of deals NIL is supposed to be about in my opinion. Guys getting recognized and promoted by the local establishments not some kind of funky $8 million dollar deal by some shady organized booster shenanigans. These make me feel a whole lot more comfortable with the money going players direction

Wait, so Lifewallet and John Ruiz don't sound like the most legit examples of NIL :roll2:

This thing is becoming more comical by the day.

It's not comical if it gets us players and doesn't get us sanctioned. Not to mention putting some coin into our athletes' pockets.

I don't like the looks of this thing at all, but college football isn't about how stuff like this looks.

No doubt, ultimately I’m happy if this transfers wealth to kids that play and represent OSU.

But there’s a total element of sleaziness with some of the people wanting their hand in the cookie jar. I hope it genuinely is focused on helping bring student athletes to the University and getting them fair market value for their talent.

I expect it won’t be that altruistic.

My issue isn’t with the kids. It’s the adults that will inevitable take advantage skimming whatever they can off the top in this fund.
Hmm…so more and more chatter about how OSU’s collective is completely mismanaged and it’s costing them players.

It’s not for a lack of money (like The Foundation is begging for). It’s just OSU likely hitched their first wagon to a bunch of grifters. Saw that coming.

Day, Athletic department, University and state leaders on up need to get aligned and focused.

edit - oh for f’s sake…this post was before I saw Zach Smith was starting his own NIL fund.

Clown show.
