I know this thread is for NIL for all sports, but regarding football, we are still behind a number of schools. I’ve been hearing that the massive Compliance department that OSU has is getting in the way of being able to keep up with other schools. I know we have the #1 class, but it’s mainly on the back of the offensive skill players. But we’ve lost a number of kids we’ve been favored for, because Day is unable to get what he wants with as much ease as Saban, Cristobal, Heupel, Riley, etc. We will probably finish with a top 5 class, which is great, but if The worthless compliance department, who’s scared of the NCAA still, will still lose some of the higher end elite talent.

For Ohio State? Absolutely

NIL matters more wherever your traditional recruiting argument (recent player development history, recent draft status history, recent all-american production history) is weak. For Ohio State, that has become the back 7 of the defense, unfortunately. Ohio State should still be DBU, but 1 bad promotion or hire can tear down a legacy that it took years to build. Back in the mid 2000s, Ohio State still had an arguable claim to being LBU. Hopefully they can get back there, and soon.

In the mean time, we'll just have to get by with whatever the 2022 Buckeyes can bring. From where I sit, they have the potential to make this entire conversation look pretty silly.

...Ohio State reported earlier this summer that its athletes had signed more than 1,000 total NIL deals for a total of more than $3.5 million. More recently, The Foundation announced an NIL deal for C.J. Stroud, TreVeyon Henderson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Denzel Burke that will pay them a combined $550,000.

Is it concerning that the entire football program has apparently less than $4 million in deals? These four played alone should be at least close to that amount imo. Signing day could go horribly wrong if Ohio State can't pay market prices.

Winning an NC and/or B1G title will have recruits coming back, especially if the OSU defense actually plays with a pulse. And let's not act like we're not still bringing in top talent, the defense is still bringing in some very good talent, and has some very good talent on the roster

Thank you! Why are some of us fans so damn negative all the time? You would think Ohio State is PSU or Texas according to some. 11-2 last year and the HC is unsatisfied and ready to bring hell to all.
