Hopefully it works. Nothing about this gives me warm feelings.

Gives me warmer feelings than the ones I get imagining not doing it

Yeah, to be competitive it has to be done, and hopefully it will be done "the right way":

"It's going to give Buckeye nation a chance to contribute and really have a feel to support student-athletes on and off the field," Jones said. "Hopefully it will get our student-athletes more into charity work. We are not just trying to make it about the star players or guys whose names are being screamed on Saturdays and then just other sports. It's all about the student-athlete body as a whole."

The weekend didn't go by either without Jones poking fun at how far things have come since he infamously tweeted out the phrase "We ain't come to play school" an decade ago.

Biddle is a jackass, and the implied threat here is the action of a jackass, but I reiterate the desire that this be done intelligently by all involved.

I define "intelligently" in this case to mean, do what is most effective and do not make decisions based on moralizing of how things "should be". Go by the rule of law and unless something is expressly forbidden by Ohio state law or IRS code, assume you can do it. Then go do it with ruthless effectiveness.

OR, just go ahead and start preparing for life as a regional power again. That was a lot of fun. I'm sure the fanbase, alumni and sports donors won't mind.

Play to win. A strategy driving toward just being present in a field is never the right choice. Ever.

Has this neutered the Presidents and AD’s? Institutional control has been buried by buckets of $$$$$$.

What’s the difference then it’s always been? It’s funny how their so much lost memory of all the CFB scandals over the years, and it always boiled down to money. This isn’t new, it’s just out in the open. The bagman can now remove the bag is all that changed

One has to just take a disgusted glance at some of the bottom feeders like Biddle (waiting on Jeff Snook to step up) to the entitled silver spoon hangers on like Schottenstein to get a strong feeling that the adults are about to quickly and firmly put their foot down.

When the freaking Alabama coach, of all people, is leading public calls to reign this shit in now, you get the idea that the people who matter don't plan on having these programs run by a bunch of shitstains with NIL funds.

A director of compliance isn’t a fan of NIL. Shocking.

That’s like the church not wanting peasants to know How to read Latin. Threatens job security and power if they can read the Bible for themselves or half the rules you used to make sure were adhered to aren’t rules anymore.

I think he can rightly see how toxic it is when a bunch of program hangers-on like Biddle and silver spoon douchebags like Schottenstein attempt to gain influence and control over the program by making themselves its NIL sugar daddies. This doesn't have anything to do with actually helping these athletes. They are just a means to the end of giving these jock sniffers influence into the program, and it won't end well. And how long before some Ryan Lamb level idiot gets busted with his hands in the cookie jar and causes a national scandal for the program and university?

Look, I was all for the kids being able to make deals with companies (local and national) and make some money. Unfortunately, it's transformed into something far different when message boards are putting together NIL slush funds.

Unfortunately, I think the only way to put the toothpaste back into the tube is to make the players paid employees under contract. Then, their contracts can stipulate exactly what kind of deals they can make on the outside and shut the Biddles and Little Lord Fauntlersteins out of the athlete peddling business.

On that last note, I don't think the genie is going back in the bottle. However we want to characterize the people who are currently out in front of these NIL deals, or assign motive to them, I think we're headed for a fracture between the universities and their big time football programs.

Sooner or later the existential question(s) is/are going to be asked about redefining the nature of the relationship.

Institutions don't like to give up power. Individuals don't like to voluntarily give up rights.

Should be interesting.

Now we can’t pretend we aren’t a football factory. And the best thing is Kevin Warren’s high and mighty BS is neutralized.

A football factory is an Alabama or Oklahoma that doesn't have much going for it other than the football program.

I'd hardly call a university with a billion dollars in annual research funding, a 7B endowment and 500M in annual fundraising (only a tiny percentage of which goes to the foosball), dozens of National Academy members on faculty, AAU membership and a Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. top 50 overall and top 15 public rankings and an average freshman SAT that's getting close to 1400 a football factory. Ohio State could go full University of Chicago tomorrow, and it wouldn't miss a beat.

That's the decision that's going to have to be made imo. U Chicago or have a semi pro football team in C'bus that funnels money to the University for using the name and logo?

Pick one. Middle ground is death.

Biddle doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The compliance Director has a responsibility to scrutinize these things if it could affect a players’ eligibility. That’s his job. Biddle and Schottenstein would prefer zero scrutiny and just be given the unqualified green light rather than have a professional in compliance consider the full ramifications.

Archie’s job is and always has been safe. NIL hasn’t eliminated the need for compliance. The most obvious examples are recruiting contacts, visits, etc. So to suggest this is about job security is rather asinine.

You really think with the direction this is heading that the NCAA and their Byzantine rule book are long for the territory?
