Minnesota Golden Gophers (official thread)

I don't care how drunk she was, how in the hell are there no criminal charges? This is gang rape. Period.

And the Gophers are now on my permanent [Mark May] list. Seen too much spinelessness over recent years to hold out hope, but Heaven help MN if its admin can't find their balls and behave like adults in response to the team. They don't need football, team or coach (proud of his team, my ass). Shut the whole damn thing down, pull all the scholarships, and fire the entire coaching staff while they're at it. Disgusting.
Because look at the evidence. It's all hearsay

So according to that report. One of the players lawyer has a 90 second video of the actual intercourse which the University making this punishment does not have.

The video according to the report shows the woman with apparently normal coordination and appearing "entirely consensual". Page 25

THERE IS NO CASE!

Just my IMO, but the Holiday Bowl should read through that report, and pull their invite NOW. It no longer matters whether there is a walkout or not. No reputable corporation should want to associate their brand with this garbage. And if they somehow do end up playing, sponsors should pull their ads from it.

Come to think of it, I may have to write an email or two of my own along those lines.

In today's current climate of the oppressive nature of collegiate athletics, I am shocked this has not happened more.

No quicker way for athletes to make a statement than cut off the hand that feeds the university, the almighty $$$$$.

I say kudos to the team, just like the Gambling team last year.

The Minnesota football program doesn't feed shit. Hell, in the context of the overall university, the Ohio State football program doesn't feed shit. Ohio State's AD has kicked about 9M dollars back to the general fund in recent years. That's couch cushion change. Minny's very similar to us: Four and a half billion dollar budget, three and a half billion dollar endowment, close to a billion dollars in annual research funding. Despite its high visibility, foosball just isn't that important on the balance sheet. At best, it funds the rest of the athletic department.

Not even a conviction- all that is needed is for school administrators to reasonably believe the student code of conduct was violated to a degree where suspensions/expulsions were warranted.

It's not the same as a criminal case- so whether or not the police filed charges is irrelevant.

I don't know much about university investigations in general, so I started googling a little bit.

One university, Drake, seemed to have more information readily available than many others. They say their university standard is preponderance of evidence that the student code was broken, which they clarify means more likely than not.

I am thinking through this ... don't police normally arrest people if they think it is more likely than not that a crime was committed?

If somehow the university and the police both saw things the same way, it might be possible to speculate that it had more to do with the code of conduct, perhaps yes means yes or something.

After meeting with the AD last night the Gophers have decided to show up in San Diego after all. How well they'll actually play remains to be seen, but at least they'll get out of Minnesota for a few days.

If you guys don't think this stuff happens every year at almost every football program other than BYU I got bad news for you...

And when it's discovered, it should be dealt with by the university. If it came out tomorrow that half a dozen Buckeye starters gangbanged a drunk chick and filmed it, I would absolutely hope that they would be immediately suspended and screw the playoff game. And given his actions since being here, I have a decent amount of faith that Urban would be behind it.
