Minnesota Golden Gophers (official thread)

All I can say is if the players are being suspended w/o any charges coming forward, the school should at least have some pretty legit proof they broke school rules at the least. This, to me, comes off as an embarrassment for the school and in attempt to not look like Ped St or Baylor, they are punishing the kids.

This sort of things reminds me of the Carlos Hyde situation.... yet a lot less serious of incident obviously. The tape showed clear as day he was struck by a woman, he responded have heartedly and was suspended 3 games for it. Everyone defended him in OSU nation as the video showed that he didn't really do anything that bad at all, but didn't matter he was punished for it. The police supposedly have a video with enough reason to not file charges on the Minny players, and yet they are still being punished. I know this is far more egregious of a case, but it does strike me as coincidental nonetheless

In today's current climate of the oppressive nature of collegiate athletics, I am shocked this has not happened more.

No quicker way for athletes to make a statement than cut off the hand that feeds the university, the almighty $$$$$.

I say kudos to the team, just like the Gambling team last year.

What I read was that the video shows she was conscious and lucid. That doesn't mean she consented to the train ride. Maybe that was just taken after she gave up saying no, stop.

They know what I know, and that is there is no evidence that the players on their team did anything wrong as the case has been investigated fully by the police.
You don't know that there is no evidence. There actually is evidence of what occurred in the rape kit, video, and testimony of those involved. The question is does the available evidence give enough weight to reasonably allow a conviction.

Not even a conviction- all that is needed is for school administrators to reasonably believe the student code of conduct was violated to a degree where suspensions/expulsions were warranted.

It's not the same as a criminal case- so whether or not the police filed charges is irrelevant.

How was that post political?
You're right, that post wasn't particularly political in and of itself. Paired with this one, however, I thought a warning was in order.

I haven't read anything on this but I did see an article that mentioned the police said it was consensual. If so it seems like another liberal school going off the walls on this kind of stuff. The players are absolutely right on this, if the police declined prosecution and said it was consensual

Then I would like to know what in their code of conduct was violated? I'm guessing this is a school that allows fraternities. Yea I bet some real ethical stuff happens at those every night.

Not sure if anyone has actually seen the EEOA report, but here's the account(the actual report, if anyone wants to read it in entirety is on the bottom) with a synopsis by an 11W poster:

Pretty damning and disgusting account. And not a good look at all for the Minny players, especially with the video evidence...

I'm only on page 2-3 and I don't like how this reads.

"Given RS report that she cannot identify all of the men who engaged in this sexual misconduct, we included in the group of "accused students" all students about whom there is evidence that they were present in apartment B during the relevant time period."

Hey we don't have any evidence that you did anything wrong but you were in the apartment so let's throw you in the accused and punish you

if you were in the apartment and did nothing you're guilty. More to the point, if I'm 'RS's dad, you'd be marked for death by my hand if you were in that apartment.

I don't care how drunk she was, how in the hell are there no criminal charges? This is gang rape. Period.

And the Gophers are now on my permanent shit list. Seen too much spinelessness over recent years to hold out hope, but Heaven help MN if its admin can't find their balls and behave like adults in response to the team. They don't need football, team or coach (proud of his team, my ass). Shut the whole damn thing down, pull all the scholarships, and fire the entire coaching staff while they're at it. Disgusting.

PS Was curious to see if there was any kind of statement on the official website. Checked it out. Nada. Well, except for this:

Look at the summery of evidence portion.

Under "video evidence" all they have are two very short videos showing a football recruit with the girl. End of case.

They are trying to form a story based on text messages and accounts after the fact of a bunch of people who were super drunk. Then they try to call the accused football players uncredible because their stories conflict. Of course they do! They were drunk!
