Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

Those emails are pretty damning to TTU so far as landing a solid replacement for Leach. Shows a shady AD that didn't even want to open up their checkbook for the coach that made them at least somewhat relevent. If I were Briles or Sumlin, the names that seem to be popping up the most, I have to wonder big time if TTU is really a better place than Baylor or Houston.

Anything really juicy in these worth copying & pasting? The links refuse to open for me.

Basically confirms what most people have assumed: that the chancellor and athletic director are essentially reporting to Tech's biggest booster on all things Mike Leach; that they didn't want to sign him to an extension; that they were looking for a way to get rid of him longterm; and that the Adam James situation was just an excuse to fire him.

Thanks for the info on the article. Nothing too surprising there, but it's nice to see from an outside source.

I'd forgotten all about CJ's recent invocation of the "victim" word.
Oh, puh-huh-huh-huh-hu-leeeeeeeeeeeeze!:tibor:

Mike Leach is a fool. I didn't think he did anything wrong, but pissing your bosses off is never a good idea. yeah, you look like the victim now, but you're still unemployed. And it's your fault.

Adam James looks like he got what he deserved. One report I saw said that he came to practice in jeans and sunglasses and acted like he didn't care about anything. If that's so, he deserves to be put in a closet or shed or training room or whatever.

I hope Leach takes TT for everything he's owed and that it damages their rep as an athletic department to the point that Texas decides it's time to skip the Big 12 for the Big 10
Would you also be interested in adding *Mike Leach University as well?

*Now under new ownership!

CDiddy posted this on BN...Check out link #2 that contains the emails exchanged by a TT booster, the AD, and Chancellor.

Emails

One day, people will realize emails are MORE dangerous than letters. These conversations should've been held by phone, with internal minutes. They would be a lot less likely to end up in the news. Dumbasses.

 Whenever I got a race discrimination employment claim I immediately get electronic discovery of the work computers. Invariably, they are chock filled with e-mails containing stupid racist comments or jokes. Most of the time it is dim bulbs just passing on e-mails they get from other dim bulbs, much of which they likely just send forward to somebody else without reading. But once it is in their domain, their failure to disavow or punish is a form of acquiescence or tacit approval that I can stuff down their throats in front of a jury. Asking them to read the things aloud in a deposition or in front of a jury is painful. They always say "Yeah I sent that, but I don't
agree with it..." Doesn't work too well.

We preach that type of lesson constantly but I know many don't listen, and we have HIPAA guidelines to follow as well. People, naively, think it won't happen to them. They also make the mistake of thinking that deleted emails disappear into thin air, and can't be found on a hard drive. :shake:

Really dude, do you think Mike Leach is a night-manager at the Lubbock Wal-Mart? Leach being unemployed isn't even in the same area code as a "normal" person being unemployed.

He has been getting paid a lot of money for some time now so he probably has quite a stockpile right now, plus interest. He's going to sue TT (and possibly others) for a hell of a lot of money. He may win outright or he might settle for not quite as much but still a lot of money. Very unlikely he ends up with nothing. In the mean time, he can get another job, again making quite a lot of money (even if it is not as much as he was making at TT). So once he gets the payout from the lawsuit or settlement, it will effectively be like he's working one job but getting paid for two, probably over the next 4 years or so. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

But you are right on one thing, it is in fact his fault that he's probably going to get paid all that extra money and gets to tell his former bosses to f-off in the process.

Looked back through a few pages and didn't see where anyone had posted this video, Video: Leach's lawyer puts 'closet' rumor to rest, but doesn't exonerate the coach - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF Blog - Yahoo! Sports

It is Leach's seemingly dimwitted attorney giving a tour of the supposed "shed" and "closet" where poor, concussed Adam James was locked and tortured ....what a joke.

I am not a big Leach fan by any means, but this whole thing is a bunch of shit. I love it that the majority of the Texas Tech fanbase has turned against the James family.

Plus his next gig probably won't be for another tightwad university.

Is this a case of reaping what you sow?

Winning typically covers a multitude of sins. But in the case of Leach, there were issues clearly bigger than the Adam James affair. Evidence in print media suggests university officials were looking for a reason to get rid of Leach. And, it appears that Leach was stubborn as well. In the article that grad posted, a reasonable assertion is made that "where Leach deserves to be criticized is for giving the school any kind of opening to whack him...unless he saw it coming all along and didn't really care."

The observation that has compelled me to post an opinion is that many college football fans are expressing their support of Leach without considering the opinions of the people closest to the situation. Most coaches who are doing a good job of coaching young men continue to have the respect of their players even when a mistake in judgment is made. (Longtime fans of Buckeye football know this well.) In this instance, Leach does not appear to have widespread support from his players. Frankly, I am surprised that players are not lining up to support their coach.

I am not saying that some quotes by a few disgruntled players is enough evidence to dismiss a coach's ability to properly coach, but it does raise questions. I suppose we will learn more as this case unfolds. But until then, reserving judgment is sensible.

What exactly did he sow? Those leaked emails are probably the most candid look we're going to get into this, and all I see are contract negotiations with a tightwad athletic program and failure to be a good ol' boy.

Last week, I suspected that the quotes from players were in response to leading questions from ESPN reporters trying hard to get some words that would make Leach look bad.

I believe that the team was instructed to not talk about the situation in the few days before the bowl, so I am definitely reserving judgment on how most of the players felt toward Leach.
