"The entire first half we got hit in the mouth and acted like somebody took our lunch money," Leach complained. "All we wanted to do was have pouty expressions on our face until somebody daubed our little tears off and made us (expletive) feel better. And then we'd go out there and try harder once our mommies told us we were OK. Well, neither one of those things was acceptable."
"Defensively we acted like we're some inferior group and we can't perform because we're not good enough and wanted to over-analyze and give a bunch of reasons for not being successful," Tech coach Mike Leach said. "They can feel sorry for themselves all they want or they can be tougher."
Texas Tech defensive coordinator Lyle Setencich stepped down Sunday, citing personal reasons in a move that came a day after the Red Raiders lost to Oklahoma State 49-45.
Coach Mike Leach named assistant head coach Ruffin McNeill as the interim defensive coordinator. Setencich, who was in his fifth year as coordinator, will be assigned other duties by athletic director Gerald Myers.
"We appreciate Lyle and the work he did for our program," Leach said. "We wish him and his family the best."

A crew from another conference would ease his pain eh?Texas Tech's Mike Leach fined record $10,000 for criticizingofficials after loss

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech coach Mike Leach was fined a record $10,000 by the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday for his harsh criticism of game officials following last week's loss to Texas.
The fine doubled the previous high by the league, levied twice before, against Kansas coach Mark Mangino three years ago and former Kansas State basketball coach Jim Wooldridge during the 2005-06 season.

The eighth-year coach was upset officials disallowed two Tech touchdowns in the third quarter, the first on an overrule after reviewing video that clearly showed the receiver let the ball hit the ground. A TD pass on the next play was negated by a holding penalty. Leach also wanted, but didn't get, a flag for roughing the quarterback.

Leach said the conference needs "to take a serious look" at having officials from other conferences call the Tech-Texas games as well as others involving matchups where he claimed there is proven to be a bias by officials.

Big 12 coaches held their annual spring media conference call Monday. While Leach was on, it became apparent he occasionally was distracted. He cut off one answer to say something to someone.
Leach explained he was watching game film with coaches while on the call. That reminded him of the time he did his 10 minutes on a conference call while waiting at the drive-through of a fast-food place. That little episode has gone down in Big 12 lore.
"One time I got in trouble for ordering lunch on one of these deals," he said Monday. "I ordered chicken express one time, and that wasn't a big hit."
On another matter, Leach, unlike many head coaches, calls the offensive plays. Some head coaches, like South Carolina's Steve Spurrier, Notre Dame's Charlie Weis and Maryland's Ralph Friedgen, have relinquished that duty. Not Leach.
Why?
"Because I'm younger than those guys," he said. " ? I got into coaching to coach. Otherwise, you're just a handshaker."

Leach suspended after player complaint
Texas Tech has suspended coach Mike Leach from all duties, including coaching the Valero Alamo Bowl, after receiving a complaint from a player and his parents.
"At Texas Tech, all such complaints are considered as serious matters, and as a result, an investigation of the incident is underway," the school said in a release. "The investigation into this matter will continue in a thorough and fair manner."
Defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill has been named interim head coach and will coach the team against Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl.
The school received a complaint from the unnamed player and his parents regarding his treatment by Leach after an undisclosed injury.
The school declined further comment because it was considered a personnel matter.
