Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

They don't bring it up because it would then completely destroy the fantasy world they've constructed in which Craig James and his effete, delicate flower of a son aren't self-entitled assholes who tell bald faced lies to get their way.

I hear Adam James was upset because his dad told him that the shed by the practice field is where the boosters are "introduced" to the players.

The story placement decisions of the Disgrace aside, this is a college football forum - issues like this deserve to be discussed.

Oops. I haven't mastered the sarcasm font. I meant the post as a shot at the Dispatch's lame coverage. This story and the implications of media manipulation by Espin trump, at least IMO, a page 2 story about a Jan 30 reception being planned for OSU's 1960 NCAA team.

Thanks for the reminder. I heard this last night too & thought that, once again, the Buckeye community must be out of the national loop. Apparently everyone else in America, except for the 90+% on this board, is drinking the James brand Kool-Aid. I wanna see those emails EK referenced. I don't believe it. The ones he was reading during the morning show yesterday sure as (censored) didn't seem all pro-James boys.

It is a nice tactic, tho', when you have the power of a media forum. Just tell people that overwhelmingly a particular point of view is held. That way, if the listener disagrees but isn't in touch with many people, they're left with the impression that they must be mistaken in their judgment, since they're in such an extreme minority.

espn poll out today shows 64% think what Leach did was acceptable. I wonder if they will report on their own poll.

**edit**
i just checked back to get an updated percentage and the poll was taken down.
I find it amusing that they took the poll down that showed a majority of people were siding with leach. Now there are some generic polls in the sportsnation section such as "who will get a job first, Mangino or Leach" and "Who will get to a bcs bowl first TT or leach"

**edit 2** I found the poll....it is question number 12 of 15 in the sportnation poll. But it now reads "What is your take on old school discipline in football" with no refrence to leach directly. It went from front page of ESPN.com to Poll question 12 of 15 with no refrence to TT or leach...only after the results started coming in making their girl James look like a douche. The updated percentage is 65% think its acceptable. I know it is a new poll because it let me cast a vote. I voted this morning to say what leach did was acceptable....you can't vote twice in those polls.

HOW COULD A STORY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT NON STOP FOR 4 DAYS NOT BE THE POLL QUESTION ON THE MAIN PAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think Willingham/Fatty were involved.

After reading everything, seeing the facts that are out there, and knowing where this kid comes from, this whole thing stinks of "You ain't gonna play my boy? Well I know how to fix you.".

Craig James is a bitch, and his son is a pussy. Tear me up if you want, but that is what I see here. Little spoiled brat who didn't like being "put in time out" for being a lazy fucktard, and got daddy to come in and "make things all better for prince(ss)".

Oh, and fuck ESPN and their agenda. I would not ever watch that family of networks if it didn't carry a majority of college sports.

That is all.

Just received a warning from the notorious Piranha Brothers, so let me set the record straight:

Most of the strange tales concern Dinsdale, but what about Doug? One man who met him was Luigi Vercotti.

"I had been running a successful escort agency -- high class, no really, high class girls -- we didn't have any of that -- that was right out. So I decided to open a high class night club for the gentry at Biggleswade with International cuisine and cooking and top line acts, and not a cheap clip joint for picking up tarts -- that was right out, I deny that completely --, and one evening in walks Dinsdale with a couple of big lads, one of whom was carrying a tactical nuclear missile. They said I had bought one of their fruit machines and would I pay for it? They wanted three quarters of a million pounds. I thought about it and decided not to go to the Police as I had noticed that the lad with the thermonuclear device was the chief constable for the area. So a week later they called again and told me the cheque had bounced and said... I had to see... Doug. Well, I was terrified. Everyone was terrified of Doug. I've seen grown men pull their own heads off rather than see Doug. Even Dinsdale was frightened of Doug. He used... sarcasm. He knew all the tricks, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes and... satire. He was vicious."

Clearly, Dinsdale inspired tremendous fear among his business associates.

Now on ESPN they're playing a cell phone video that shows the "electrical closet" that Adam was held in. In the video Adam decides to record the whole room then turn around and record his own face then turn it off.
Interesting tid-bit ... the owner of the account on which the video was uploaded is one Spaethcom8181, one of the TT board posters claims this is a recently opened account linked to Spaethcom.com - a PR and witness preparation consultancy based out of Dallas.
Further in the linked scout thread someone suggests Spaeth helps political clients ...

That particular company does a lot of work with aspiring politicians. As in Crag "I'm considering Running for Office" James.

As of Wednesday, no other Texas Tech football player has stepped forward with a tale of mistreatment at the hands of Leach, which brings us to the third actor in this melodrama. It's hard to imagine the Texas Tech locker room will be a welcome place for James. His teammates came to Lubbock to play for a successful coach who is no longer there. Whether James stays in Lubbock or transfers, he is going to be known as the guy who got Leach fired. That isn't likely to turn out well, either.

Mike Leach's firing at Texas Tech Red Raiders leaves no winners - ESPN

This as about as far as I have seen an ESPN writer go to suggest the reaction by TT was inappropriate. Even then, I wouldn't consider him neutral.

1. Watched the cell phone video. From the original report, I thought it would have been a lot worse than that. Is that all? Sure wish my coach would have let me stand there for two hours rather than making me run suicides.

2. Texas Tech is in some hot water here. It is a public institution that is required to grant Leach due process, which could mean a pre-termination hearing. Now, they've come out and said that Leach was being insubordinate for, among other things, filing a suit over his suspension. Smacks of retaliation for pursuing a lawful suit over the school's due process measures. All of this from a school that hired Bobby Knight after he was alleged to have assaulted a student (not a player).

3. ESPN's coverage is shameful. They only print the quotes from one player, a sophomore DT. They ignore quotes from other players/coaches characterizing Adam James as lazy and a distraction and supporting Leach. Not one commentator on the WWL has come out and said what seems to be the prevalent opinion, at least on this board: that Adam James was probably a difficult player that received reasonable discipline.

The whole thing stinks to me and I don't even like Mike Leach.

Or, put another way, Geiger wasn't going to allow ESPN's defamation and negative reporting to play any role in how he administered the Athletic Program at Ohio State. They might report the "news" but Geiger was the man who decided. Geiger and tOSU had the balls to stare down ESPN's campaign.

TT, on the other hand, must now stand for Totally Testicleless.

Andy Geiger got a lot of credit from Ohio State fans for taking a stand and then taking the bullet for the program. He deserved even more credit. Loved Ohio State and showed it at a high personal cost.

Andy, if you're out there, we remember!:osu:

The true tragedy here is the loss of quotes from Mike Leach. His dating tips were hilarious.

The zooker & leach would make a formidable duo, at least in pressers.

I am very uninformed about the law in Texas, but I do not understand how exercising one's legal rights can be construed as insubordination. This whole affair is going to set TT athletics back a decade, just wait and see.

Sometimes the law does make sense. In this case, I am shocked that the university would be stupid enough to cite the restraining order request as additional rationale to support the termination decision. Huge mistake that will probably cost them when the parties finally reach a settlement.

It will just put them back where they belong and raise A&M back up.

Just wanted to walkback what is becoming a an oft-quoted meme, that Leach had filed suit against TT. That is not true. What Leach sought was a Temporary Restraining Order, the legal equivalent of a colling down period or timeout.

The suit will surely come, but it will focus on contractual issues.

That sums up a lot for me. Leach was fun to have around at a distance, but I wouldn't have wanted him anywhere near a program like Ohio State. Still, he was shafted, big-time and now TT will pay the price, most likely with punitive damages.

Texas was just about far enough away so that he could beam in his whacky quotes (thanks for the reminder jwinslow).
