Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

sounds to me like it wasn't about the treatment of James, so much as it was the attitude he displayed toward his boss once the incident occured. it really doesn't matter who you are. if you spout off to your boss and act like you are better than him, you probably won't be around too long.

I was thinking the same thing. I found the following in an article on Yahoo:

Texas Tech fires football coach Leach - Yahoo! News

Leach was suspended Monday after he refused to agree to guidelines for dealing with players set forth by his bosses in a Dec. 23 letter.
When Leach decided to fight the university in court "in defiance" of his suspension, that's why "we are where we are," Turner said.
"In a defiant act of insubordination, Coach Leach continually refused to cooperate in a meaningful way to help resolve the complaint. He also refused to obey a suspension order and instead sued Texas Tech University," the statement said.
Texas Tech officials provided Leach a letter setting out guidelines for dealing with student-athletes. Leach refused to sign it. The letter was included in court papers filed in response to his motion for a restraining order.
Among the guidelines:
? "Decisions regarding whether an injury warrants suspension from practice and/or play will be determined by a physician without pressure from you or your staff."
_"There will be no retaliation against any student who as suffered an injury."
If my boss provided me with guidelines for my job and I refused to sign them, I probably wouldn't be employed much longer.

Now on ESPN they're playing a cell phone video that shows the "electrical closet" that Adam was held in. In the video Adam decides to record the whole room then turn around and record his own face then turn it off.

I really can't tell, but the cell phone video and the new video really don't look like the same room to me. Anyone else notice this? I guess it could be part of the larger room or James video taped himself in a different room?

Or, the room the attorney showed us wasn't the room James was sequestered in.

Wonder if we'll ever find out... or if this will fall under the same FERPA guidelines that limit public release of other student records. Either way, Leach's account probably won't ever get a fair hearing on eSPIN

Over/under on it being the classic MySpace mirror shot with Adam doing the fish mouth?

I am not a lawyer, but as a former manager and director for various companies, it's always been known that we can't fire someone for bringing a lawsuit against us, instead, you wait til 3 months later and fire the fucker for being late.... Anyways, since this is obviously going to become a pretty ugly court battle, doesn't TT's AD saying "you don't sue your boss, that just doesn't end well" hurt them in the long run?

Anyways, uhm, yeah.

Unless you thought that, by signing the letter (which is alleged to have not been presented anyway, I know), you would admit to guilt and to having violated those guidelines.

In other words, other wording on the letter may have made it appear that the guidelines were needed because you had violated the guidelines and put your players health or other rights at risk.

As for the other video, we will indeed know the truth of this.

I already knew and thought this, but this just confirms it. Craig James is the biggest pussy connected to college football. I knew he was a little crybaby bitch when he was with CBS.

What are parents becoming. If I ever have a son who plays college or even high school football, and his coach does this to him, I'd tell my son to toughen up and quit being a little bitch. Where are parents who WANT their kids to be taught lessons. There are many accounts of Adam James being an asshole who doesn't work hard and bitches about everything. His coach gave him what he deserved. He's a big boy...do something about it. Play harder. Work harder. Take the 3 hours in the dark to reflect on life, yourself, and what you want to do with the rest of your time in college.

Coaches are so soft. These are college football players...they are some of the biggest strongest people in the world. Nothing bonds you closer to somebody until you fight them. I wouldn't doubt if Woody got into some fist fights with some of his players. I'd want my players to be the meanest, angriest people who never back down to anything and always fight through everything. Football in general is getting way to soft. I saw a personal foul called for a late hit against Suh today that was a complete joke. IT'S FOOTBALL! You hit people. You shouldn't have to pull-up. Sure, if you go out of your way to hit somebody after a play is obviously over, then throw a flag. But if you are just completing a tackle out of bounds, or if you hit a QB hard a second after he throws the ball, or just playing hard football, then let them play. It's a hard sport. You are supposed to get hit. It's why girls don't play. But you know what, the direction that football is heading, we might as well just put girls out there.

I would be soooo pissed if I was a TT fan. Leach is a good coach, and firing him sucks for their school. In my eyes he did nothing wrong. If JT did this to some player, and he got fired, i'd be livid.

Good for Leach for not apologizing. Fuck Texas Tech for being bitches.

Go Sparty!

I wonder if this went down as a [censored]ing contest. When the AD heard from Craig James, he goes to Leach, and said something like 'look, make an apology, make promises about playing time, make nice and this all can be handled quietly.' Leach's response: '<censored> that, I won't do it.' Rapidly downhill from there. Workable theory imho. :wink2:

During the evening game break with Uncle Lou, et al, this is pretty much exactly what they were claiming happened. TT admin. was saying they offered Leach some options to work out the situation but he turned them down. Of course, that's a self-serving explanation for the school, since it puts all the responsibility for the outcome back in Leach's lap.

On Outside the Lines about an hour ago, they stated that there was a 10-day period for some reason, and that he wouldn't really be completely gone until after that 10-day period, so he would probably receive the 800K bonus that he's due tomorrow.

Sorry, I didn't hear clearly what the 10-day period was for. I know that some contracts (I believe RR's at TSUN) have clauses where the coach has a time period to respond to charges and have a hearing when he's being fired for cause. But I'm not sure if Leach's contract has that same type of clause.

Excerpt from Leach's 2005 contract ( assuming this same clause survived the contract Leach signed before the start of this season) contained in Section V(A)(8) on page 6:

"Cause" sufficient to satisfy the provisions of this Contract shall be determined by the President of the University after a pre-termination meeting held for such purpose after ten (10) days' prior written notice to Coach, which notice shall include a statement of charges against Coach.
