Michigan Coaching Speculation

I'd take Bellotti any day. Hell yes I would.

As for Bowling Green, I had to look up the head coach (apparently it's Gregg Brandon) and I don't really think he's had any more success against the Big Ten than any other MAC coach. He beat Minnesota this year, but who didn't? He started off great because Urban Meyer left him a foundation.

Oh....and ESPN reported that Ron English is a candidate? Huh. Who'd have guessed that? Glad we have ESPN to tell us these things. The only thing I take away from that is that Ferentz (thank God) isn't the shoo-in candidate after all.

As an OSU fan I'd be happier if they hired English but Ferentz is fine by me.

yeah, but Bo was the HC at Miami when TSUN went out and got him. not a small difference...

?????????? Miami was in the Big 10? That's the issue. No Big 10 school has ever hired a head coach from another Big 10 school. Hiring a coach from a MAC school is quite a bit different than hiring the coach away from a sister school. That's why Parshigian went to Notre Dame, no big 10 team was going to take him from Northwestern. This is not the SEC.

OSU did interview Mason before they hired JT. That's probably about as close as it gets. Scum missed out on the next Bo by not hiring Dantonio last year. Now they have to take it from both ends.

Compared to some of the excessive and unfounded speculations I've seen both in the media and from and fellow fans (*cough* Bob Stoops), that almost looks reasonable.

Stoops, eh?

Hmm.

Urban was there 2001-2002. There wouldn't be much (if anyone) left by now.

They had pretty good teams a couple years ago, right after Meyer left. They've gone downhill a bit since then whn Gregg's coaching his own recruits.

2002 - 9-3
2003 - 11-3
2004 - 9-3
2005 - 6-5
2006 - 4-8
2007 - 8-4

Well, that short-lived buzz was put out to pasture quickly last week when Stoops sneered at the very mention -- I was just dismayed that anyone even briefly considered it a possibility.

The most ridiculous fan "suggestions" I've seen thus far:

Bobby Ross
Marty Schottenheimer
Terry Bowden

Yeehaw. :shake:
