Lou Holtz (Official Thread)

Glad someone posted this. That was epically awesome to see. May has absolutely no clue what he's doing. Ohio State could win every game by 60+ points during a season and win the title and Mark May would still say there's a better team in College football.

Even a couple of years ago when everyone was getting on Holtz for picking Notre Dame to go undefeated that year, I thought he was great. When you remember that ESPN is an entertainment company, and that the characters on the programs are entertainers, guys like Lou Holtz become pretty funny sometimes (although, I don't think he's always trying to be funny). It wouldn't surprise me one bit if that conversation were scripted to some degree.

Scripted or not, seeing Mark May bitch-ass himself off stage was pretty funny.

I think it's very much scripted. I mean...there will be weeks where May plays the good guy and takes the obvious logical pick, while Holtz will play the biased fan approach. The next week they'll reverse the rolls, but rarely do they agree it seems. I'm fairly certain it's all scripted, it's all done to play up the friction between Lou and May. I've heard Holtz and May visited campus in an unofficial capacity a few years ago and they seemed to get along quite well. May even had good things to say about the Irish, which was weird. I try to forget about it though and remember it's just more fun not to like him

The only issue I have with Lou is that he actually goes along with the schtick. I saw him once on a non-ESPN show (might have been radio...whatever) and he was sharp as a tack. You know he still knows more about football than most people, but he still plays the dopey slurring grandpa. He's better than that.

Of course if ESPN wanted to pay me 6 figures, I'd stand on my head and read the phonebook if that's what they wanted.

Wait, are you saying that the solution is to have all the players ride around in Rascals?

Does Brady Hoke know that you're using his image for your argument?

It is every bit as real as pro wrestling!

Man, Lou is just ripping [Mark May] up on the fake attorney stuff. He is really rooting for tOSU. Have to reevaluate my dislake for that slobbering little bugger.
Don't dislike or like the man for what he says...as he's reading a script. I choose to dislike him for selling out his obvious football knowledge to play the goofus character he does on TV. The man has probably forgotten more about football than most of us will ever know, yet he chooses to sit next to Mark May on a daily basis.

edit - Which I guess is punishment enough. I think "dislike" is too strong here. I dislike the character he plays on TV.
