Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

With all due respect, Lebron James (despite the fact that he is an unmitigated bitch) is the best athlete on the planet and maybe the best athlete ever. Dwyane Wade is a distant second. Lebron has shown in the past the ability to frustrate Kevin Garnett and half the time Westbrook is his own worst enemy.

that's right . great analysis . now he's on his way to the champion.

True, but with Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka, Harden the Thunder are much more athletic as a team. After LeWadeBosh, the Heat are a joke.

Mike Miller? Haslem? JoEEEElllllll Anthony? Ronny Turiaf? Juwan Howard? Shane Battier? Chalmers? Norris Cole?

With Bosh out, the Pacers could really cause some trouble. West/Hibbert really should be unstoppable, and it'll be up to LeBlowJob and Wade to score basically 35 points each.

Lebron led a Cleveland team that didn't have Dwyane Wade to the Finals against better teams than the Pacers.

I know we hate Lebron (LORD KNOWS I HATE THAT MAN), but he has the ability to put a team on his back. (Hello, Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals!)

Have you watched him in high pressure situations? IF they get to the finals, he'll wilt...especially if he has to play 45 MPG with RuPaul out.

Also, lets be honest, the eastern conference was awfully weak in 2007 when the Cavs went to the Finals...them getting whitewashed in the Finals showed that.

.... which begs the question: Was Game 5 of that Detroit series an anomoly of epic proportions? I'd like to think so.

It certainly seems that way...given the rest of his track record. LeChoke is more than capable of carrying his team for a game or two, here-and-there. But, over a series, with the pressure on, his tendency is to choke. Look no further than the Finals last year. He totally disappeared. They showed a stat in that deciding game 6 last year: LeChoke had never scored 25 points in a Finals game...10 game sample size. That is astonishing.

I don't know if anybody can beat OKC right now.

Not an NBA fan in the least. Rooting against Lebron is about as far as it goes. I, however, would be totally into watching OKC win the title just for the pure pleasure of watching David Stearn's nutsack recede into his abdomen.

EDIT: Mixed up Durant and Garnett.

There is a long list of amazing athletes if one removes the category of performance in the final stage.

Pure athleticism and talent is not celebrated when paired with an underwhelming mental fortitude.

Lebron is easily one of the greatest human specimens in the history of sports but I would argue that only adds to his shame instead of being a small consolation.

And that is all I was saying. I've never seen an athlete like Lebron James when you take into account his strength, speed, leaping ability, and coordination. It's unparalleled in my lifetime.

That doesn't mean he's in the class of the greatest basketball players of all time. That's an entirely separate issue.

And while I respect and admire what Jesse Owens accomplished, track athletes are more one-dimensional, even considering his broad jumping. He was fast and could jump far. Lebron has those in spades, but he's also very strong and powerful.

And yet he STILL can't put together a full 4th Quarter performance...
