Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

3 years ago there was no way to get all 3 even close to a max deal on the same squad. But all 3 played on the Olympic team in the summer of 07 (with Chris Paul) and Nick Arison (son of owner Micky Arison, and friend of D-Wade) was in their ears about making it happen. If there's any way possible to bring Chris Paul in, that will be looked at as well this upcoming off-season. All 4 wanted to join up, but Paul came in during a different draft class so his Free Agency couldn't be coincided with Wade, Mrs. Wade, and RuPaul. I have no idea how much of a pay-cut all 4 would have been looking at taking to play with eachother, but it's stupid. 4 of the best players in the world, in a game structured like basketball, is just stupid. I agree with the people who have made AAU comparisons...these guys have truned the NBA into AAU ball, and all they care about is playing with friends and putting together the best team, versus wanting to compete and win a title that actually means something. There's no validation in winning a title when it's paired with 2 other superstars....or 3.

College basketball is pretty much the same way as the NBA is now, too. AAU, the shoe companies and the summer camps have turned it into this.

I saw an article on SI.com not too long ago showing early evidence that a similar transformation is starting to take place with college football. Uniform companies, 7 on 7... heaven help us if football goes the way of basketball.

It'd be extremely hard to do in the NFL with their salary cap. The crappy thing about the NBA right now is you can offer 3 max deals, and then surround the talent with a few veterans and have a championship team. You only need 5 to play and 3 of those 5 can be the best players in the game.

You have a tight cap in the NFL, and 22 starters. You tie too much money up in 4-5 players, and the rest of your roster suffers and the talent of those 4-5 players isn't enough.

I've been watching the NBA for 20+ years so you don't have to assume what my "exposure to the NBA is". Whether or not he plays in Cleveland or Miami, he is the same 6-8 250 pound 2 time MVP beast that he has been the last 7 years.

I know it makes Cavs fans happy say that he is going to go to Miami to be Wade's bitch and put up Scottie Pippen numbers, but I just don't see that happening His scoring may drop a little. His assists definitely won't go down. His rebounds could possible go down with an athletic powerforward in the mix but will most likely stay the same. Hell, his scoring may even go up since a team can't send everything but the kitchen sink at him defensively.

Scottie Pippen in his prime:
Pts assist reb
20 6 5

LBJ Last Year:
Pts assist reb
29 8 7

My prediction for his stat line at the all star break:
Pts Reb Asst
26 11 7

My prediction: Shaq is going to break TJ's leg the first game and he won't play the rest of the season.

Also, in basketball, unlike most other team sports you only need five guys on the court at once so it is much easier to put a very talented team on the floor by getting 2-3 very talented players and surrounding them with role players.

Heard on ESPN today that Barkley said LBJ's "Decision" and the fireworks show in which those three were introduced in Miami were "punk moves" and that him leaving Cleveland for Miami was bad for basketball. I'm sure the trolls around here would disagree, though.

Since I've been labeled a troll because you whiners can't handle any dissenting opinion....I'd like to point out that I don't disagree with any of that.

Seriously, do these guys want to look like douchebags? - Chicago Bulls Confidential

So, a good time to Chris Bosh is screwing with peoples emotions? Look, I get where you are coming from. It's aggravating to have people all up in your face asking you about your plans all the time, but show some respect you m----- f------ a-----. You know those people who you're screwing with?

They're the ones who make it possible for you to be paid an outrageous sum of money rather than to work some minimum wage job, so maybe you should back up the truck and appreciate them a bit more.

Sadly, they don't even qualify as respectable villains, because they come off as such insecure, ego-centric, douchebaggy cowards. You hate them, but also look down on them at the same time. I'm sure they're locked into their own little ego-centric bubbles too much to care, as well they should be.

Hall of Famers ok with LeBron move, not ok with how it was done:

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ? Don't blame LeBron James for leaving Cleveland. Don't fit him for a ring yet, either.
That was the message at the Hall of Fame on Friday, where James' move to Miami was a topic among this year's induction class.

"I would say this: With the guys they got, they're going to be a hell of a team," Malone said of the Heat. "I pick the Lakers."
Malone also joked that former coach and current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy "must have had some red wine that night, a lot of it," when he predicted recently that the Heat could break Chicago's record of 72 wins set in 1995-96.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100813/ap_on_sp_bk_ne/bkn_hall_of_famers_heat#Pippen who played on that team, said the Heat need to start with smaller expectations.
"I'd like to see them win a championship first," he said.

James was criticized for deciding to announce his free agency decision during an ESPN special, rather than inform them and his other suitors himself. Pippen agreed that wasn't the best choice, but said there was nothing wrong with him leaving Ohio.

"I don't know what all the grief was about," Pippen said. "No fans, no organization, no one can decide what a free agent can do or should do or where he's going to go, and there's no reason for anyone to hold a grudge against LeBron for making that decision."

Oscar Robertson also defended James, saying the free agents were just taking advantage of the "Oscar Robertson Rule." Robertson, as president of the NBA Players Association, filed a class-action lawsuit against the league and its teams that the league settled in 1976, removing a team's option to keep a player for life and opening the door for unrestricted free agency.
Malone spent nearly his entire career in Utah before joining a powerful Lakers team that had Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant for a last-ditch run at a title in 2003-04. So he wasn't going to criticize James for bolting Cleveland for a better shot on a better team ? though he didn't care for the way it was done, either.

"That's his decision. My decision, when I left Utah, I went to L.A. to win a championship and had an opportunity," Malone said. "Him leaving, that's him. I don't know what to tell you. The way it went down, I'm not into that."

Malone ended up getting hurt and the Lakers fell short, and he warns that injuries could get in the Heat's way. Pippen, meanwhile, thinks Miami's size could be a problem.

Malone said the Lakers also got better over the summer with the additions of Matt Barnes and Steve Blake. While admitting he's biased, he believes they will win a third in a row.

"As long as you've got Kobe on that team," Malone said, "and Derek Fisher on that team and Pauhttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100813/ap_on_sp_bk_ne/bkn_hall_of_famers_heat# and coach (Phil) Jackson and his staff, I'm picking the Lakers."

LeBron's move OK, Heat no lock, say Hall inductees - Yahoo! News

most still pick the Lakers though at this point. Can't really disagree with that either. Lakers will be hard to beat.

LeBron James interview: Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert gave him 'motivation' - ESPN

James told GQ: "I understand that a lot of people would be hurt" in Cleveland by his decision, but also said that growing up, he and his friends from Akron didn't always like Cleveland. Akron is about 40 miles south of Cleveland.

"It's not far, but it is far," James told GQ. "And Clevelanders, because they were the bigger-city kids when we were growing up, looked down on us. ... So we didn't actually like Cleveland. We hated Cleveland growing up. There's a lot of people in Cleveland we still hate to this day."

James said he'll remain anchored in Akron. "I'm going to spend a lot of the summer here," he said. "This is my home. Akron, Ohio, is my home. I will always be here. I'm still working out at my old high school."

And he said Cleveland fans were "awesome" but didn't take back his comment late last season that those around him were "spoiled" by his play.
"I love our fans. Cleveland fans are awesome," he told GQ. "But I mean, even my family gets spoiled at times watching me doing things that I do, on and off the court."

Keep making an ass of yourself LeBron. Whata douche.

To think he could ever come back and play in Cleveland is assinine. He needs to have a chat with Art Model. I'd rather stay championshipless, than watch this POS lead Cleveland to its first title since 62.
