Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

I got the new SI today. As much as I want to burn the damn thing, I went ahead and read the cover story. It pretty much dispels the notion that only Cleveland fans look down on the move. It reveals that LeBron had in fact told Wade at one point that he would welcome the opportunity to not be "the guy" and that Pat Riley pretty much based his pitch around that (and his bag of championship rings).

It also revealed that James had in fact persuaded Wade and Bosh to sign three-year deals with their former teams in the last round of free agency to set up this exact scenario.

It's clear now that this has been in the works for a while now, and that the Cavs never had a chance to re-sign LeBron. Despite that, all this time he led the Cavs and their fans to believe that they were at least in the running. He also led the Cavs to believe that he wanted to the the main man on a team that contended for a championship, and not a role player. The Cavs spent the last three years trying to build the exact opposite of what LeBron wanted.

More than anything at this point, I'm not upset that LeBron is gone. I'm upset that the LeBron we all thought the Cavs had wasn't really there in the first place.
"Chosen One" my ass...

it's amazing they were able to do all that and keep it a secret from every insider, every NBA fan, every person associated with the Cavs organization, and all personell in Toronto in order to set it all up. Not bad for 3 guys with exactly 4 years of college, combined, under their belt.

Interesting to note that as the board rips LeBron a new one no one has mentioned what Ohio native -- make that Cleveland native -- George Steinbrenner didn't do for Ohio and the many chances for World Series opportunities he bought for the Yankees and not the Indians.
you mean besides be a coach on a woody hayes team? donate the money for the band center? remember when the built bill davis and they raised a bunch of anonymous money, wonder how that sprung up?

plus i dont think anyone is actually claiming the leader of the evil empire was the greatest guy... did they?

If Lebronze had a father, he'd feel the strong urge to nest his foot in the chosen one's ass.

Yep, and I doubt he'd have had the same resources to buy a winner in Cleveland that he enjoyed in the Big Apple.

a. Didn't know about his attempt to buy the Indians.

b. Capital can work where ever it chooses. The long time Pirates owner and huge Buckeye booster, John W. Galbreath, lived a few miles west of Columbus though most of his business was in NYC and Pittsburgh.

Steinbrenner bought Drew Henson from Michigan, and forced the weasels to start sophomore John Navarre, and, IMO, was a great contribution to kick starting the Tressel domination of Michigan.

So true, glad you mentioned this. Come home, George, all is forgiven.

One can only fantasize about the alternate universe we'd find ourselves living in today if George had been allowed to purchase the Indians when he made his offer. Imagine if he had done everything for Cleveland that he did for New York.

No universe features that alternative.

If he had bought the Indians he would have died a failure.

This is a thread about LeBron. Besides, it takes someone very cold and callous to rip on a man that died in the past week.

It really wasn't a secret. I had heard about this for over a year now. There were rumblings about it, but nobody really took it seriously. It seemed outrageous, improbable, and unbelievable. Worse yet, it made Stephen A. Smith look like he was right.

If this is an attempted response to the post that Steinbrenner had better resources to buy a winner in NYC than he would have had in Cleveland, it fails miserably.
