LB Ross Homan (official thread)

Anyone heard if Ross will be ready to go against Navy, and esp. USC?

With one practice left to go before the opener ? not including Friday?s walk-through ? the Buckeyes remain quite healthy to start the 2009 season. As of today, Tressel expects to have all of his starters on both sides of the ball ready to go, and that includes Justin Boren and Austin Spitler ? both of whom suffered injuries early in fall camp ? as well as defensive end Cameron Heyward.

In the presser Tressel brought up Ohrian Johnson, Aaron Gant, and Jermil Martin. I doubt he would have forgot Homan and Homan played a lot in the scrimmage last week. He'll be good to go.

I can't believe he couldn't cover Joe McKnight 1-on-1!!!!!!1!

Tough assignment for Ross on that one, but fine job by Barkley recognizing it and making the throw.

Looked like a solid game for Ross Saturday from my view Saturday night.

Friday Night notes, Illinois edition

After a week off, we return with a collection of news and notes that did not make the paper this week:

Homan: Football 101?

As one of the few remaining schools on the quarter system, Ohio State did not start classes until Wednesday.

It's safe to say linebacker Ross Homan wasn't excited about it.

"These past weeks, we've kind of had an advantage, we were pretty much football players from 8 in the morning till 8 at night," he said. "You can just study football football football, and now school is starting, you have some other classes, you have to worry about schoolwork, homework now. . . .

He was asked if he would prefer not to have to go to school at all.

"I would definitely like to take a class that's all football that's all it is," he said. "If we had a class where all you had is a lecture hall, watch football, watch film, I would take notes."

By the way, OSU is switching to the semester system by 2012.

Ohio State?s weak-side linebacker Ross Homan left the game in the second quarter and didn?t return. He was an apparent victim of a neck stinger.

He was reeling after the hit. He could barely stand up, and when he did, he was staggering. I was shocked that he stayed in the game for a couple more plays.

I think Rolle's interception was probably his last play.

Early notes from the luncheon stated that Ross had concussion like symptoms but played about 16 plays afterward.

Junior Ross Homan, Ohio State’s only returning starter at linebacker, left the game against Illinois this past week with concussion-like symptoms. The Buckeyes are hoping to have him available Saturday, but he should be considered questionable at this point.

?Ross got dinged a little bit there early in the game and played about 16 plays after the fact, which was a little frightening, but he seemed to be feeling fine,? Tressel said.
?(He) probably won't work today, but will work tomorrow. We're very, very conservative on those.?
If Homan cannot play, or if he?s limited in any capacity, the Buckeyes would then turn to sophomore Andrew Sweat, who did a good job of filling in Saturday after Homan left the game.
?Andrew Sweat stepped in and obviously had prepared and is a talented kid. It was a good experience for him because you need to develop that depth because injuries do happen,? Tressel said.

Homan expected back

Coach Jim Tressel said outside linebacker Ross Homan, who had to leave the Illinois game because of a slight concussion, is expected to return to practice today.

Tressel said he'd been told Homan took part in 16 plays after he suffered the blow that did the damage, "which was a little frightening."

Andrew Sweat stepped in and played extensively for the first time, "and obviously had prepared and is a talented kid," Tressel said. "It was a good experience for him because you need to develop that depth because injuries do happen."

Standing and watching is not Ross Homan's preferred way of doing things, which made it tough on the Ohio State linebacker last week when he was pulled from the win over Illinois after suffering a slight concussion. Whether he's jockeying for position on one of the Ohio State student parking lots, working the controller of his video game, or trying a new sushi dish -- that's right, sushi! -- the junior from Coldwater, Ohio, prefers action.

QYou said that once fall quarter started, there would be a lot of "C Lot wars" going on. Why do you call it that?

AYou're trying to find a parking spot, it's packed full, and you are zooming in and out of the aisles, waiting to see taillights come up, racing another car to get there. It's pretty much a battle.

QDoes the fact that the university expected record enrollment this fall -- but with no significant increase in parking spaces -- affect the C Lot wars?

AIt's going to be twice as hard. I'd better get my game ready.

QAfter you get out of C Lot and later leave the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and head to your apartment, what do you do to take a load off?

AI'm into video games. If anyone wants to take me on in Halo or Call of Duty online, I'm ready.
