LB Ross Homan (official thread)

I would imagine that they are just getting him reps with the other LB's in the projected "6 players getting a lot of playing time" as I doubt they will be platooning 3-in-3-out during games. Each LB has to be comfortable with the rest, not just the first teamers with the first team / second teamers with the second team.

Good Point. With the talent that we have stockpiled, its probably a good idea to mix'em up a little bit. I imagine that this will allow subsititions to occur on long drives and for certain situations that may occur theoughout the course of the game.

Ross had another very good game. If he even gets a finger on you, you're going down. Just like A.J.

Agreed I think Homan had a very good game yesterday against Akron...our tackling was mediocre at best in the first half, but the second they stepped up and it seemed that if Homan got a hand on someone, it was a for sure tackle.

I don't want to get ripped apart by people for saying this but he looks as good as Lil' Animal did as a Sophomore. You can tell the kid has great instincts and has a non-stop motor. The only difference is that Ross has more help than Jimmy did last year. IMO Homan is one of the top 3-4 Lb'ers on our team. If he keeps playing at this level he may be a starter sooner than later. We'll have to see how he does once the competition gets stiffer...IMO the sky is the limit for this kid.

You shouldn't get ripped apart for saying that. Homan is already splitting time equally with Freeman (according to Fickell). His ability has meritted that.

Not a big deal really considering how much PT the entire front 7 get. The rotation has been great thus far with little or no dropoff. I even believe at times the 2nd unit comes in and sparks us. Once in a while I see our guys getting a little complacent trying to "blow em up" and miss tackles. Homan and Spitler do not miss tackles period. Homan was also key on JL's sack yesterday as he basically caved the middle of the line in to free up Animal on the stunt. I'd like to see more stunts and blitzes and I'm sure we will as the season goes on.

Props to the OSU coaching staff for finding a way to get so many guys in the game.. We've all been clamoring for Homan and Gibson, and staff has found ways to get them in the game, while also gettin Grant and Freeman plenty of snaps...

Instincts make LB a factor

OSU's Homan is challenging for the weak-side LB job.

COLUMBUS ? While other high school prospects were soaking in the atmosphere at Ohio State games, Coldwater linebacker Ross Homan was busy making mental notes.
Homan treated each recruiting visit as a chance to learn from one of the Buckeyes' all-time greats in A.J. Hawk.

"When I was in the stands, I'd watch him every play," Homan said. "I wouldn't be watching the quarterback, I'd be watching him ? just to see how he played and try to pick up anything I could."

I've liked what I've seen out of Ross this year. He's not yet playing as fast as I think he's able to but that will keep coming. The thing that stands out to me is how well JL and Ross play together and how well they communicate. They seem to have there heads in the same place.
