LB Mike D'Andrea (official thread)

everyone was sure that practice rumors of a 3-4 and carp at rush end were bogus during the offseason... in fact one guy got dings for suggesting something so stupid. wouldn't surprise me to see them try and use mDa there next year when car is gone.

Like anyone else, D'Andrea has to earn a spot in the starting lineup. That's the bottom line. Schlegel has done that and is doing a great job. It sucks to lose your spot because of injury but life's not fair sometimes.

I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." D'Andrea will get his chance to play, but Tressel is smart enough not to bench a successful player like Schlegel to do it.

I took a lot of heat for suggesting Carp at DE! Got tons of red chick lets! My how people have short memories!

Lets give credit to Schlegel for playing on a bad wheel most of last year! People forget that! He was a liability in pass coverage. He is solid this year with two good legs! May play in the pros!

MDA, last year was arguably , our best pass rusher. Remember the NCST game? Guy was making plays all over the field! Caused one of the interceptions. Then, he got hurt. It was a big blow to the defense. Fox gets hurt and we're in deep shit. When MDA comes back he'll be a difference maker on "D".

MDA has just been unlucky with some injuries. I hope ha can come back nex year and have a monster year because we will need him. I am not going to complain about Schlegel but he is in a great situation with two first rounders on each side of him and a good line in front of him.

I also think MDA can have a great season next year, but he will need significant playing time at the end of this season to get back into the groove of playing at game-level intensity.

Our LB crew will without a doubt miss the 3 starters we have now, but it will be exciting to see the young guys battle for the starting spots. Curtis Terry looks like a specimen in pads to me. He flies around on special teams, and I think he might be the surprise at the LB position next year.

As a side issue, wouldn't it be something if the same NFL team could somehow end up acquiring both Hawk and Carp? I, for one, will be sad if and when it becomes apparent they won't be exerting their combined domination on opposing offenses.

COLUMBUS - Ohio State senior linebacker Mike D'Andrea will make his season debut in the homecoming game Saturday against Michigan State, coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday.

D'Andrea, a Parade All-American rated the nation's top linebacker recruit when he came out of Avon Lake, underwent a second surgery on his right knee in July. He already has been granted a medical redshirt year for 2006 because he played in just four games in 2004.

Tressel said D'Andrea will start out in the middle behind starter Anthony Schlegel. Co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Luke Fickell said last week that because D'Andrea has missed so much time, the OSU staff might use him as a pure pass rusher. Linebacker Bobby Carpenter, who is moving to end on passing downs, leads the team with four sacks and defensive end Mike Kudla and linebacker A.J. Hawk are tied with 3.5.

``I'm excited,'' D'Andrea said. ``I'm sticking with (middle linebacker) right now. Maybe a few things down the road at other positions.''
