LB Mike D'Andrea (official thread)

Great news to hear he is progressing well enough to be in the two-deep. He'll be a welcome addition to give Schlegel a breather when he needs it. I'm excited to see him at full strength, both mentally and physically, as the year progresses and into the future.

He was my favorite player right before he got hurt. I have no clue why really because of course he hasn't had the breaks go his way, but I'm pumped to see #5 out there on passing downs as the rush end. Boy will that be exciting to be able to put all 4 of them in at the same time? Hell we might go to the 3-4-4 instead of the 3-3-5 that we've been doing.

No need to apologize.

He's still a MLB first, per the article on the front page:

The plan is to ease D'Andrea in at middle linebacker, but coach Jim Tressel said the Buckeyes might eventually use him the way they have Carpenter -- as a rush end when the Buckeyes are in a nickel package.

Help me out with D'Andrea eligibility!

:oh: :io:

I believe I read that D'Andrea was awarded another year of eligibility. That was for previous injuries. Now, he played as a true freshman, so if he stays out this year and takes a 'shirt, wouldn't that give him another year (as a redshirt), plus the gift year from the NCAA? I keep reading that he is anxious to get back into the fray for the second half of this year, but if he and Freeman 'shirt this year, wouldn't that give them two years together?

What am I missing? Thanks to my more learned colleagues.

he doesn't want two more years, hence the reason he's coming back this season and will play his last season next year..you are correct tho, if he wanted too, he could redshirt this year and then have two years of eligibility left
