D'Andrea looks like a career back-up. Next year, the job should be Laurinaitis's. D'Andrea doesn't have the mentality of an MLB (doesn't shed blocks well; doesn't like to get hit first; doesn't seem to react well, especially to plays that come right to him), and he is (for whatever reason) "injury prone". On the other hand, Schlegel is a classic MLB, albeit without as much athleticism as D'Andrea; and Laurinaitis looks to be the same; Chad Hoobler will be in the mix as well, although with the lack of depth at TE, he may need to move back there next year.
Tressel indicated that neither D'Andrea nor Freeman would be available for the Penn State game, but that both are expected to return to action this season.
"He (D'Andrea) hasn't had any hitting, so my guess would be that he would be hard pressed to travel to Penn State, but he has shown a lot of progress this week From what I've seen, if the game were this Saturday, he wouldn't, but the game isn't, so we'll see," said Tressel of D'Andrea.
It was much the same outlook for Freeman.
I think this season but not this game," said Tressel.
"I don't think there's any way he could play against Penn State or even the next game. I think he could get the rest."
