Chris Spielman introduces his children, Maddie and Noah, as award presenters during the 11th annual Stefanie?s Champions event in April in Columbus. The event has been held annually since 2000 and has raised nearly $8 million for breast cancer awareness. Stefanie Spielman died last year after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.

COLUMBUS ?

Last month as the leaves were changing colors and autumn was setting in, Chris Spielman and his four children visited the cemetery. At a time of year and a setting where they were surrounded by death, they remembered life.

They gathered where their mother and wife was buried.

Stefanie Spielman, a vibrant breast cancer advocate, died last November. The former Stefanie Belcher, a Jackson High School graduate, married Chris, an All-American linebacker from Massillon and her high school sweetheart. They had what seemed to be a fairy-tale love story.

On this sunny September day, Chris brought his four children to the cemetery. Madison is 16 and Noah is 14. They have memories of their mother.

Macy is 9 and Audrey just 8. Chris, Madison and Noah want to make sure the younger daughters always have memories of their mother.

Audrey plays soccer. She is good enough that she was moved up a grade level. While driving home from a recent practice, Chris asked her what she thought her mom was doing now.

?She said, ?She?s probably dancing with Michael Jackson,? ? Spielman said, laughing at the thought. ?I ask them about her all the time.?

Chris Spielman on Wolverines: 'I don't know how they got this bad on defense'
Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

Former Ohio State and Lions linebacker Chris Spielman, now working for ESPN as a college football analyst, said that without a doubt, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson is the fastest player he's ever seen, and the Michigan defense is the worst he has ever witnessed from the storied program.

Spielman worked Michigan's 48-28 loss to Wisconsin last Saturday, and then Monday afternoon was on Columbus radio station, The Fan 97.1, for "The Big Show", on which he appears regularly with co-host Bruce Hooley.

Michigan (7-4, 3-4 Big Ten) plays at Ohio State (10-1, 6-1), which is going for a share of its sixth-straight Big Ten title, on Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Here are some of Spielman's comments from Monday's show regarding Michigan:

That's fucking awesome!

Give those fuck-tards some bulletin board material, I don't give a shit. It's not like Spiels is out their lining up against them so they can show him any different. Hell it wouldn't matter who said it because it's mostly the truth. They're a fuckin H.S. football team and they're gonna get their dicks kicked in the dirt on November 27th.

Chris Spielman still fighting a personal battle
By BRUCE HOOLEY

Feb. 28, 2011

The storied career in high school, college and the National Football League left Chris Spielman short of the only goal he really cared about.

There was the Wheaties box appearance as a Massillon Washington all-state linebacker, the Lombardi Trophy as a two-time All American at Ohio State and the four Pro Bowls with the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills.

There was never, however, the ultimate team championship to celebrate.

He came close, losing in the Division I title game at Massillon, falling short of a Rose Bowl triumph at OSU and coming up empty in the NFC championship game in Detroit.

But now, 12 years after his career ended in the first training camp of the expansion Browns in 1999, Spielman has another chance at a victory that would dwarf the ones he drove himself to attain on the football field.

The opponent he?s dedicated the rest of his life to defeating is cancer.

This battle is personal for Spielman, who lost his wife, Stefanie, to breast cancer on Nov. 19, 2009.

Spielman was on the Mike & Mike Show this morning. He spoke on the Coach Tressel incident:

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/show/_/showId/mikeandmike/postId/6196591/show-in-review

Some highlights Chris spoke on:

-When asked what he would have said to the media if he were Coach Tressel: "I messed up. I accept full blame and accept the punishment. I will also add an additional game and an additional $250,000 to show I would like to make amends to what I did wrong. End of press conference."

-Strongly believes there will be more sanctions with the damaged public opinion of the NCAA.

-Gave good words about JT (wants his son to play for him) but went on to basically say JT did not take responsibility as he should have publicly.

-Says that this issue will never resolve, that it will hang over the university forever. That Jim Tressel's legacy at Ohio State is eternally damaged.

Before a speech at a dinner at Ohio State's Lima campus, Chris Spielman told the Lima News that he doesn't expect coach Jim Tressel on the sideline for any Buckeyes football games this fall.

"I'd be surprised if he's coaching next year (2011)," the former Buckeyes linebacker and ESPN analyst said. "Why I say that is I think there is more stuff coming out."

Tressel already faces a five-game suspension for withholding knowledge of potential NCAA violations by some of his players from Ohio State officials and the NCAA for several months.

"He's a friend of mine," Spielman said. "I respect him. I would be honored if my son were ever good enough to have him play for a guy like Jim Tressel. That being said, Ohio State is bigger than one individual. It's bigger than the James Cancer Hospital. It's bigger than the band and football and basketball and the Fisher College of Business.

"So what has to happen, in my opinion, is that the people in charge have to take an honest look and say, 'What is best for the university moving forward?' Then they have to make a hard decision. And I do believe coach Tressel owes it to our university, he has to look in the mirror and say, 'What is best for the university looking forward?'"

Spielman said he has "been on the end of threatening emails just for saying something like that" but will continue to speak his mind.
