LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

I understand your points, but this award is recognized by many as a huge award. Now Poz gets all this recognition, that he shouldnt even be getting. I seriously cannot stand all this media recognition for PSU when all they did was return from the cellar in the big ten. They have one good team every 10 years and they get all this recognition. Give me a break.

Yep. Well said. I was upset with this award last year when it was given to DJ from UT b/c I thought A.J. should've gotten it. I thought this year would be his year. Then everyone's jumping on the bandwagon of this junior from PSU who A.J. outplayed objectively if one looks at the stats. I hope FSU pummels PSU in the Orange Bowl. Then maybe the media will end its love affair with PSU football.

I feel you man. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have smiled if he'd won. I know I come across as a computer come-to-life sometimes, but there is still a little human left in here somewhere.

I think the biggest question that needs answering is how did Hawk actually "WIN" the Lombardi based on the rest of the BS thats happened (The Bednarik and Butkus). How in the hell did he fool those voters into believing he was the "Best Interior Lineman."

Our favorite son is sadly a victim here. Jesus Christ! The kid should have wrapped up every post-season award simply based on his performancee against Texas, let alone the 9 dominating performances he turned in after that. Yes, he is a victim alright, a victim in the sense that TOSU players are perceived nationally as a bunch of drunken thugs looking to get their palms waxed. Remember, he WAS NOT even a unanimous selection as All Big-Ten. Never mind that he is squeeky clean. He looks like a neanderthal yet speaks with the eloquence and class that you'd expect from a Valedictorian, not a linebacker at "Thug-U." He looks at himself as nothing more than a single piece of an eleven piece puzzle. No show-boating, no chest-thumping, he just plays the game not only the way that its supposed to be played, but better than anyone else in CFB is capable of playing it.

I will send out a congrats to Poz on winning the award. Again, a great kid with heart and class that plays great and represents his University to the T. But, we all know what happened here, and what will happen here. On January 2nd, AJ Hawk will play his last game as a Buckeye against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This will be the chance of a lifetime for AJ to show the Nation that HE is the BEST LB, DEFENSIVE PLAYER, etc. The opportunity of a lifetime to really do some damage and prove the voters wrong. THIS is what WE are all hoping for. But in AJ's mind, Im sure the thinking process is different. He'll approach the game the same way he has every game for the past 4 years. He'll respect his opponent, and simply play his game to the best of his abilities. That is all he expects out of himself, thats all he's ever expected out of himself. And, if by chance he wins the MVP of the Fiesta Bowl, he'll stand in front of the cameras with that scruffy, long-haird look and talk about his teammates and his time at TOSU in a way that will probably have all of us in tears.

He is a special person, and special people do special things. Awards or not, he is as good as anyone we've ever had play LB at this great University. Not necessarily saying he is the best ever, but nobody comes to mind that I can honestly say was "better." Peace.

LOL, its cool. I know I stated it above, but I feel as fans we are going to take this one harder than what AJ is, b/c we know and stats don't lie that he was obviously the best lb in college football.

Not sure if it matters, but we do have the best run defense in the country and that is obviously spearheaded by our best defensive player Hawk.

Either that's an error, or somebody at CFN went to bed early and assumed what the rest of college football fans (even outside Ohio, with the lone exception of Happy Valley) have been assuming since the end of the regular season. :wink2:

OR

Everyone else is either reporting the wrong story or lying about the TRUE outcome of the Butkus award voting. And Hawk really won it.

OHHH!!!! Ok, I get it. Ha ha. Y'all pulled one over on me. You can change the topic now. No more of this "Poz won Butkus" stuff.

WHAT? You're serious?

This isn't funny anymore.

Now it just hurts. But one thing is for certain - Hawk remains the best linebacker I have ever had the honor to watch, and I think it will stay that way for a long time. One in a million.

Have a safe trip, AJ.

I'm not on here claiming any conspiracy or anything like that. However, I wonder if the Butkus committee, based in Orlando, has any ties to the Orange bowl? Just a thought.

A.J. deserved that award. Congratulations go out to POZ. But damn if that don't sting a little. :(

To be fair, Poszluszny did beat Hawk in Big Ten Player of the Week and was the first player in Big Ten history to be named player of the week at any position for three consecutive weeks.

Hawk's Player of the Week write up against Texas.

In a narrow loss to No. 2 Texas, Hawk spearheaded the Buckeyes defensive attack with a game-high 12 tackles, including seven solo stops, three tackles for loss (including two sacks), one interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The two-time Preseason Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year picked off his seventh career pass in the second quarter and returned it 24 yards to set up an OSU field goal to take a 13-10 lead. On the next Longhorns' possession, Hawk recovered a fumble to set up another field goal and a 16-10 advantage. The senior linebacker's three tackles for loss set Texas back 12 yards, including 10 yards lost on his two sacks. This marks the second weekly accolade for Hawk, as he was also honored on Sept. 29, 2003.

Keep in mind that was on the national stage against the best o-line in college and one of the top 2 qbs in college. He cemented his name on that trophy that nite. No ifs and buts about it.

Not sure if anyone has seen the voters for this award, but there are a bunch of non-buckeye guys from the media on the list.
