LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

I personally think that if people take the W-L columns into considerations of awards are just full of crap. It should be based on shear personal performance and not as a team. Thats just my 2 cents but seriously though, what if there was an AMAZING RB (DeAngelo Williams for example) didnt play for a very good team but had amazing talent.

Didn't North Texas have a couple of guys who led I-A in rushing for like 2 years in a row? For all awards, including and especially the Heisman, BTW, the team and the record definitely matter (Hornung being the exception).

Well he had the same thing happen to him, so we will see if he brings that up. Propably won't b/c he is a classy individual, but I am sure we will hear that he thinks AJ should of won the award.
he's definitely not afraid to go off on an testosterone-overdose-induced diatribe either tho... and such will make for some great listening.

I don't get it. Hawk has over twice as many sacks, has 2 forced fumbles whereas Poz has none, and Hawk shows his all-around ability by the fact that he's scored a TD, recovered a fumble and picked off a pass. Poz had 2 more assisted tackes. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'd like to ask those who voted for Poz on what basis they did so. It sickens me to say it, but this (much like JoePa getting coach of the year award) is just another instance of the media loving PSU and being PC by giving them all the awards simply b/c everyone had written JoePa off as being too old to coach. Ridiculous.

I agree 100%...Poz winning this award had more to do with the 'story of the year' then anything else. If you play on a team that has future NFL LB's (Carpenter, Schlegel) and you STILL have 109 tackles...more sacks, more FF, more FFR, etc...and you DON'T win the award...Something stinks. Poz is a great player....He's no AJ Hawk.

Does anyone think that the voters actually compare statistics? Or do they go with the story? The story that is only a story because Penn State has been absolutely putrid for the last 5 years!

It's too bad when good kids become the victims of media lovesickness.

I'm sure we care more about AJ getting individual awards than he does.

That is most likely true, but the real problem is that if you go by stats alone, A.J. is deserving of the Butkus award. The other kid is a good player but he is not in Hawk's league. These awards are more political than anything else.

Bottom line is that Hawk ranks up there with the best LB that ever played at Ohio State.
