LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

FORMER OHIO STATE LINEBACKERS GET FANCY TO BENEFIT THE LAURA AND AJ HAWK FAMILY FUND FOR THE JAMES COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER

82850_h.jpg

For several years now, AJ Hawk has been helping kids with cancer in a number of different ways, and last night James Laurinaitis and Bobby Carpenter helped out their linebacking brother-in-arms to help benefit the Laura and AJ Hawk Family Fund for Pediatric Radiation Oncology at The James Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Here's a little more about the fund, from Ohio State itself:

As a Lombardi Award winner for the top college linebacker and a two-time All-American during his time at Ohio State, A.J. Hawk is well known by fans around the Buckeye state and equally admired for his career with the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals. With his wife, Laura, the two have started three funds at the OSUCCC – James to provide care and comfort for children battling cancer and their families.

Each of those three funds helps benefit kids battling cancer in different ways. The Hawk Family Fund itself helps provide young patients with ways to help them handle the stress and anxiety that comes with their situations, including interactive technologies. The Hawk's Heroes Fund gives children a special superhero outfit to wear during radiation treatments, and The Hawk's Locks Fund provides hair to children undergoing chemotherapy to allow them to regain some normalcy in their lives. You can click the links in the paragraph above to donate, as AJ, James, Bobby and the rest of The James come out of the jungle to thank you.

AJ Hawk
Football 2002-05
Two-time All-American AJ Hawk is one of the great football players and linebackers in school history. A four-year letterman, Hawk ended his standout career as the fifth-leading tackler in school history with 394 total tackles, including a nearly 20-year high 141 tackles during a consensus All-America junior season in 2004. Hawk’s statistics also position him 11th in school history with 41 tackles-for-loss and 17th with 15 quarterback sacks. He was a three-time All-Big Ten performer.

Hawk capped his career by being named the Lombardi Award winner as a senior in 2005 and a unanimous All-American after leading the Buckeyes in tackles for a third consecutive season with 121, including 16.5 tackles-for-loss. He was also named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year and he was the Defensive MVP in the Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame.

A team co-captain in 2005, Hawk played in all 14 games during Ohio State’s 2002 national championship season and in 51 games altogether. He was on Big Ten championship teams in 2002 and 2005 and his Buckeye teams were 4-0 in bowl games and 3-1 vs. Michigan.

Hawk, from Centerville, Ohio, was a first-round NFL Draft pick, No. 5 overall, of the Green Bay Packers. He played nine years with the organization and led the team in tackles five times. Including 16 games in 2015 with Cincinnati, Hawk played in 158 NFL games and recorded 947 tackles.

Did you know that AJ is working for Stadium TV? I'm watching a rerun of the North Texas - Southern Miss game from earlier this season and he's doing color commentary.

If he ever bumps into Brett McMurphy around the office I hope he punches him in the throat.

2. A.J. HAWK, 2005
On the second level of the defense, A.J. Hawk was a feared linebacker. In 2005, he recorded 9.5 sacks, the third-best mark among linebackers in program history. Additionally, he ranks sixth in individual percentage of the team's total tackles (20.2%) and is seventh in tackles for loss (16.5).

Hawk led the Buckeyes in tackles for three straight seasons. After his senior year, he was named a unanimous All-American for the second year in a row. Hawk also won the Lombardi Trophy in 2005 and finished his career fifth on Ohio State's career tackles list.
