LB A.J. Hawk (2x All-American, Lombardi Trophy, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion)

Packers Twitter states AJ Hawk was released.

Hawk was selected by the Packers in the first round (No. 5 overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. In nine seasons with Green Bay, he appeared in a 142 of a possible 144 regular-season games, starting 136 of them. Hawk ranks No. 1 in franchise history (since 1975) with 1,118 tackles, having surpassed John Anderson (1,020 from 1978-89) for the team mark in the 2013 regular-season finale. He recorded 100-plus tackles in seven of his nine years in the NFL, including in four consecutive seasons (2006-08, 2010-13).

Hawk led the team in tackles five times during his career (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012-13), which tied LB Nick Barnett for the franchise record (since 1975). The Packers made the playoffs seven times in Hawk’s nine years in Green Bay, winning the division five times. In 2010, he was selected to the Pro Bowl and helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV. Hawk started 11 of the 13 postseason contests he played in, recording 70 tackles.

Damn, 9 seasons, doesn't seem like it's been that long. I remember him playing for nearby Centerville just as I was graduating high school, as well as Nugent. Would have been cool to play against both those guys, but they were in a different conference. AJ probably would have run me over.

I imagine he'll wind up somewhere, any ideas who is looking for a veteran LB?

Hawk was arguably the second greatest football player to come out of Centerville High School.

Bengals? May even be looking for two given the injuries they've sustained, one vet via free agency and they'll very likely draft another. And as it happens, Hawk is out there and would probably accept a low ball offer from Cincinnati. That's his childhood team.

AJ's been going through the media car wash the past two days and has admitted he knew the Packers were releasing him, and the move had actually been completed a week ago, but Green Bay withheld it so AJ wouldn't have to deal with the questions while on the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer.

Former Packers LB A.J. Hawk is in Cincinnati today, visiting the Bengals.

Dear Lord does it make me giddy to have Hawk and Nugent on my team again  I think he will be a great fit here and believe he still has 2-3 years left in the tank. Bengals really need a steady veteran and Hawk is just that.
