LaTwan Anderson (official thread)

Free Rivals - Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Impressions from the Road: Northeast Ohio

S- Latwan Anderson- Glenville- After turning in a great performance vs. Elyria Catholic from the safety spot, Anderson put on a show at wide receiver against Cardinal Mooney. He made a spectacular catch above his head along the sideline against Braylon Heard. He also made a circus one-handed catch out of bounds that drew loud applause from the crowd. At safety, he forced a fumble at the goal line on Braylon Heard.

Did everyone see the jump Anderson made in the lastest rivals top 100? 5-star status and I think he he was up in the top 20 overall. Character/ grades still going to prevent him from getting the OSU offer?

:oh::io:

He's certainly not that great. Ignatius didn't really have a competitive passing game, but Anderson didn't make much of an impact on defense in that game. I actually think he profiles to slot receiver better than defensive back.

I guess the jump was related to how well he has done in recent camps playing safety. Safety is a thin spot on the depth chart. I say you offer the best talent you can get if he's academically eligible and hope he grows up/ matures when he gets to college. It's tough to pass on one of the better DB's in Ohio. Too many people are still banking on Joyner and it just isn't happening. Shaw and Bryant sound promising.

If there weren't other issues, I think LaTwan would have offers from everyone. I do think he is a top 100 player but 5 star status is a little ridiculous. Anymore, Rivals just loves stirring the pot with their top Ohio player rankings. Anyone who specializes in Ohio rankings would tell you that Norwell or Hicks are the top player and five stars. Also, not many would have had Justin Turner as the top player in Ohio over Hall and Wood. They also had Rudolph over Adams for a long time. It seems they just pick a non-OSU guy and let the madness begin. Rivals has to know about the off the field issues, yet they are still going to rate him a 5 star player while they drop Turner.

Maybe they're not always wrong...

It looks like that now but at the time, they were off their faces. Adams was one of the best offensive tackle prospects in the last 10 years coming out of HS and mostly everyone was in agreement.

It's all perception until they hit the collegiate field and prove themselves...

Disagree with you here. Big time. LaTwan is an absolutely incredible athlete who could play CB or S or even WR at a high level, and USC would have already offered him if it we weren't already set at DB and it there weren't some underlying issues and questions in his recruitment.

Hicks, that's a definite maybe as I believe he is also a Top 25 national recruit like LaTwan. Norwell? Nope, not even close.

Again, you are way off base here. Justin Turner was without a doubt the top senior college football prospect in Ohio last year. Rivals is not the only national recruiting service that named him as such, just about every national recruiting service did.

Turner was simply prolific throughout his high school career, and his versatility was amazing. His size and his raw skill are amazing for a CB prospect. You know, 6-foot-3 athletes that can play CB in college do not grow on trees. Turner is an extreme rarity at CB.

Hall was approaching Turner's level as a prospect but still not quite there, and Wood wasn't even in the same leauge.

And....they were right. Now that Jermaine Greshman of Oklahoma is out for the season with an injury, Kyle Rudolph is the best TE in the Nation. Rudolph will go pro after next season and be a 1st round draft choice.

It seems to me that they just pick the guy who they think is best, and if it happens to not be a kid going to Ohio State the fan base freaks out.

They do know about LaTwan's issues, all about them, but his are miniscule in comparison to Turner's issues. Turner will be lucky as hell if he ever sees a college football field.

LaTwan still has a shot in '11 if he doesn't make it this year, and with Teddy Sr., guiding him now I have a lot of confidence in his situation. Teddy is a great guy, and he'll really go to bat for LaTwan like he does all of his kids.

But then again they put Sanders over Adams for the longest time...

And....they might have been right on that as well as Zebrie Sanders started 12 of 13 games for FSU last year at RT as a true freshman and will be an anchor for a very good FSU line again this year, and he looked great on Monday night against Miami.
