Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

uhm.. Saban said he (kiffen) will basically have nothing to do with Alabama for the game and there were questions of whether NCAA compliance was going to approve that.

Short story even shorter... Aint happening Kiffen is done with bama.

Well, so much for that theory.

So, back to waiting until April, then? Damn.

EDIT: Also, where the heck does one find the rules on coaching staffs? Found the rulebook for playing the game, but there didn't seem to be any indication about the coaching staff stuff in the index, and I wasn't about to read through all of it to find out.

Urban asks that his assistants give him two years. Doesn't he owe them the same courtesy?

I think that's normally very reasonable, but these two years were not normal.

I've been thinking about the players OSU has had from 2015-2016 and have gotten angrier. Just on the offensive side you have one of the best RBs to ever grace the field at OSU, two different players good enough to set career touchdown records (Miller being one of the most dynamic runners I've ever seen), an excellent WR who has set 3 different Saints rookie records, and Samuel, who is the best all purpose player I've seen in an OSU uniform and, imo, pretty damn close to Percy Harvin in ability.

And what does OSU's offense have to show for it the past two years? Not much. So while I argued just a few days ago that changing coaches too quickly can be dangerous, Beck and probably Wariner did not deserve this courtesy.

Oh without a doubt. The issue is I feel like you'd run into some kind of NCAA violation if you had Kevin/Chip doing coaching things unofficially before the 10th coach is approved. Now, they may be able to skirt that by hiring them as some kind of "consultant" or something brought in to do something similar to "coaching," but that's just me grasping at straws. You could also maybe convince Ed to step down into one of those QC roles over the winter and spring to get the actual new OC in and then re-promote Ed once the 10th position is approved. Not sure Ed would like the optics of that (and the NCAA may not either for their own reasons), but maybe that's an option as well. That's just me guessing, I could be completely off on all my thoughts.

EDIT: Also, the relative silence outside of the initial flurry of reports has me wondering if this is all a bunch of silliness that has us all waiting to be let down. Haven't seen anything other than the Crimson Quarry and Feldman tweets besides articles based on them.
The point was I don't think we'll be waiting till April. I'm not sure the NCAA rules around giving someone a leave of absence or letting them go only to hire them again in 4 months when the rule changes, but if the reports are right and Wilson is the OC, he's got to be in place before spring ball starts. So unless the reports are wrong, we'll see something before April.

This is a very good hire that can set up someone like Joe Burrow for success. Decisive, accurate, gets the ball out quick and can move around and pick up some yards running but not a home run hitter running the ball. Perfect opportunity for him and Haskins as well.
Exactly the players I was thinking about

Good catch - didn't realize that Saban quashed that plan yesterday. Still, doesn't change the fact that Alabama and the other SEC teams especially have enjoyed playing fast and hard with the rules for the better part of a decade now.

And when the NCAA quite frankly shows it doesn't even care what they do anymore (http://www.si.com/college-football/2016/04/29/laremy-tunsil-admits-being-paid-ole-miss-2016-nfl-draft), I think we'll find a way to coordinate our coaching changes

Yeah he moved switfly on this one. Just a quick 2 wasted seasons and Beck was out the door.

Beck was a questionable hire when he came on, no doubt. Then after his first year, everyone wanted to fire him, myself included. But then again that was the narrative for a guy named Tom Herman up through his first year. The obvious difference is that Herman proved himself tenfold in the second year and Beck did the opposite.

My only point is that after you bring a guy on, pretty tough to kick him out after one year without more of a chance to prove if he deserves to stay or not. Personally, I wanted Beck gone after the first year and was vocal about it. But the offense did well enough to give him one more year, whether that was him or just too much talent (it wasn't him).

Idk though, maybe I'm giving Urban too much credit after I watched Tressel keep The Walrus as the OC for so many years. I just feel like Tressel, god love him, would have kept Beck for his entire tenure, while Urban made the move relatively quickly.

I wasn't on here much then but I doubt people wanted Herman fired his first year considering it was a major improvement over 2011. I think it was around a 13 ppg jump and one of the highest scoring offenses in school history at the time. If they did, they were fucking idiots

Probably some of the same people who are upset JTB is coming back.

I think the criticism revolved almost exclusively around not giving the ball to Carlos Hyde on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 in the B1G championship game against MSU.
