How it should be. Shit be changing and I'm not sure I am up for it. Choose your school, coaches, and majors. That's what being recruiting was for me.

FORMER OHIO STATE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR KEVIN WILSON LOOKING FOR YEAR TWO STRIDES AT TULSA
The Golden Hurricane are but a small ocean swirl as Kevin Wilson enters his second season as head coach.
Tulsa went 4-8 as Wilson started his rebuild in 2023 – its fifth losing campaign in the last seven years – then suffered a landslide of losses in the transfer portal. Question marks are rampant on their downtrodden defense.
Still, the former Ohio State offensive coordinator has a core of key pieces returning, especially at his offensive skill positions, bolstered by a solid portal haul in response.
“I think we’re working together better,” Wilson said in March. “I don’t think we’re pulling guys. There’s a good esprit de corps, I think we’re working hard. There’s a lot to do, but there’s a good vibe with the team right now.”

Well yes, it is ridiculous; but that is what college football is today. With the transfer portal it does make a turnaround potentially possible a lot quicker than years past; look what Curt Cignetti did at Indiana this year. However, to actually achieve this "the stars do have to be aligned" and you undoubtedly need a very generous NIL budget. He probably had neither at Tulsa.
I've said before that the school should give the couch 4 years so he has "his players", etc. However, I'm torn on this one. Kevin Wilson may be an example of the "Peter Principle" (i.e. great assistant coach; but, not so great head coach). In six seasons her never had a winning record at Indiana (26-47) and so for this season his record at Tulsa is no better than last year's (i.e. he isn't showing that is is making any progress).
He had a 5 year contract with Tulsa and will undoubtedly get a nice buyout. In addition, he has a pretty good resume including his time at Ohio State:
If he wants to stay in coaching he should be able to get another assistant and/or coordinator position somewhere.

tOSU has the football budget to add a consultant or a dozen, obviously. Hopefully, Day can take up where Saban left off, what with the 'rescue' of ex-coaches needing a place to hang until the dust clears from prior assignments. Not certain I'd take Kevin over Chip, though. Comparing the two, Kevin is/was more 'vanilla' than Chip, given what we all saw on the magnificent Championship run. But.....with Chip having some pro teams calling, might be nice to have another ace up Day's sleeve. Big question, would Day trust his $8+ million paycheck to Kevin versus Chip? Not thinking so...

The ONLY reason I think Day may trust him is the familiarity of working together here for a couple seasons. I believe Day was the primary play caller then though.

Just a schlub from Y-town
I really appreciate Wilson for what he did, but if he comes I feel like it would be a step back for Day's progression as a HC. I see Day stepping back with being a game manager, and going back to being the principal play caller if Wilson comes back.
If he does come back, I kind of wish Day allows Hartline to get more involved in play calling with Wilson, which allows for his progression.

Totally agree with that sentiment. Currently with an empty title, Hartline should (?) be pushing to put some relevant experience behind it. He's on a tremendous run as WR coach/recruiter, but as we all know, things change, and nothing lasts forever. Mid-majors might tab him as HC, eventually, but a lower level doesn't ensure success, methinks. Sitting in the meetings, even participating, watching game plans being fomented is important, but until one has the experience. doesn't make sense to be named 'the guy'.
