Kevin Wilson (Former HC Tulsa)

Urban asks that his assistants give him two years. Doesn't he owe them the same courtesy?
I think it should work both ways. Minus an utter-implosion, total disaster of a season, I believe any coach deserves a second year. 2015 was certainly a disappointment, but I can see how there could be perceived mitigating factors that led to the disappointing offensive output of 2015. The QB controversy going in. The fact that tOSU, as defending champion had a large target on its back and got everyone's "A" game. Players reading their own hype and believing it. For as disappointing as it was, tOSU still went 12-1.

I've been vocal of my distaste of the Beck/Warinner combo all year. But I've never faulted Urban for giving them a chance to right the wrongs of 2015. I said all along, if we couldn't get things figured out this year, change was needed. As a team with playoff/NC aspirations pretty much every year, you can't afford to let this sore fester another year. Well, 48 hours after the total collapse of the offense, Urban acted. I cannot and will not complain about that. I can't think of many people going into this year that realistically expected this young team to make a NC run. But they did, and we learned some things along the way. What appears to be the result of those lessons will make us much better going forward.

I'm kinda wondering if there is a another scenario to why Kevin hasn't been announced yet. Perhaps Urban was pretty sure Chip wasn't going to be available so maybe when he became available he decided to kick the tires a little bit and maybe bring Chip in for a year as OC and Kevin goes to QC for a year and when Chip leaves Kevin moves right in.

I think any delay (if this does happen) is more because of not officially being able to have a 10th coach yet and also working things out with Ed. The vote on the 10th coach isn't until April, right? That would mean OSU can't officially have a 10th coach until after that vote happens. If Ed is staying in some coaching capacity that means there can't really be anything to announce until after the vote. Unless Ed or Stud move on before then, I'm thinking we'll be left hanging for quite a while, officially. Now, if Kevin/Chip start being seen regularly in C-bus and whatnot, it will be pretty obvious, but until then I think we're stuck on "rumors" until April.

I would think they'd want Wilson in place before April though, no? If he's going to be the OC, I'd think they'd want him coaching spring practice.

Oh without a doubt. The issue is I feel like you'd run into some kind of NCAA violation if you had Kevin/Chip doing coaching things unofficially before the 10th coach is approved. Now, they may be able to skirt that by hiring them as some kind of "consultant" or something brought in to do something similar to "coaching," but that's just me grasping at straws. You could also maybe convince Ed to step down into one of those QC roles over the winter and spring to get the actual new OC in and then re-promote Ed once the 10th position is approved. Not sure Ed would like the optics of that (and the NCAA may not either for their own reasons), but maybe that's an option as well. That's just me guessing, I could be completely off on all my thoughts.

EDIT: Also, the relative silence outside of the initial flurry of reports has me wondering if this is all a bunch of silliness that has us all waiting to be let down. Haven't seen anything other than the Crimson Quarry and Feldman tweets besides articles based on them.

When Alabama replaces Lane Kiffin with Sarkisian in a mutual parting of ways, only for them to announce he will remain on board for the title game as an 'offensive analyst', effectively giving them 9 coaches + 1 in reserve + 30 'analysts' on the sidelines, I think we'll be fine.

There's the workaround, then. Kiffin will probably be the one really calling plays, while Sark will probably just be the one "officially" calling plays for the game. Although, I'm curious to know what that means for the practices. Can Kiffin do any actual coaching, or can he only provide input and feedback to Sark and the other coaches. My guess is he can't be involved in practices the same way a coach can, "legally."

Now that would be the ideal scenario but I have not seen or heard anything about Chip being in Columbus. It would also give Wilson a year to clean his reputation a little which seems to be bothering a few people.

uhm.. Saban said he (kiffen) will basically have nothing to do with Alabama for the game and there were questions of whether NCAA compliance was going to approve that.

Short story even shorter... Aint happening Kiffen is done with bama.
