K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

Brown can make kickoffs in the endzone and kick FG's for over 50

Nuge's kickoffs don't make the endzone and struggles from 50+

not sure how you can say Nuge is better when Brown went 11 for 12, and kicked the Bengals into the playoffs, love Nuge, but give me the bigger leg, take off the scarlet glasses

I'm not saying Nuge was bad, but he get's injured too much, and doesn't quite have the leg anymore

Brown was fresh. See what he does after an entire season.

Sure they do. Everyone does. But to say that Nugent's injuries are due to the grind of the season, and not a couple of freak occurrences (didn't he have two knee injuries from players running into him on FG tries?) is being a bit foolish.

I have to agree with Bucknut here. I love what Nugent accomplished as a Buckeye, but I think Brown was the better decision in this situation.

Nugents career numbers arent as good as Brown's but look at how consistent Nuge was last year before he got injured. He ended up hitting one of the longest fg's of his career and Brown's longest was his rookie season. At this point in their respective careers if Nuge comes back healthy, he's easily the best choice. That's looking at them with or without scarlet glasses on.

The only question is will Nugent be healthy. If he is, he's the best choice and would have been All-Pro this season healthy.

All I had to see was kickoffs to know who I wanted (and who stays healthy)..

as I said, Nuge struggles to reach the endzone, Brown didn't

That's the problem, Nugent hasn't been healthy the past 3-4 seasons, he's finished the season on IR twice in three years

When you say struggles to reach the endzone, are you saying that Brown is able to consistently pin it within the 10 yard line and that Nugent can't even get it that far, or that Brown gets a lot of touchbacks? If it's the latter, I would assume Nugent is deliberately not going for the touchback and is instead trying to pin one down inside the 5.

as a bengals fan, I don't like it, as a buckeye great for him

cause Josh Brown (who finished the season) was better, and has a bigger leg than Nugent

Re: The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed place kicker Mike Nugent for two years, preventing him from becoming a free agent.

Just sayin': Keep in mind that signing the contract does not necessarily mean he'll make the team. Nugent still can be cut and be owed nothing (unless he got a signing bonus). NFL contracts are not guaranteed. He still might have to compete with Brown (or someone else) for the job.

yes, Brown's KO were rarely returnable, whereas Nugent's was constantly getting returned from about the 3-4 yd line

I'm really not seeing it. Both are 81% career FG kickers (2012 numbers for Brown are about his career best), and Nugent has a significantly higher touchback % (18.6) than Brown (11.6). Nugent kicked almost a third of his 65 kickoffs last year for TBs before getting hurt. Sounds like Brown had a great half-season in 2012, but on paper the younger Nugent is the easy pick.
