Jameis Winston (QB Browns)

Serious question. If Jameis were to sue that store (not even sure if that's an option), and win, would collecting a settlement be an NCAA violation?

I would guess he would be seeking an injunction in this case and would not be likely to collect any monetary damages. As to your actual question, really interesting question that I do not know the answer to (not super familiar with NCAA laws). My gut instinct would say that he would be getting compensation for his likeness and it would be a violation...not sure if he could put the settlement into a trust and wait?

Jameis Winston’s baseball suspension comes to an end

Well, as expected, that certainly didn’t take long.

Four days ago, Florida State baseball manager Mike Martin announced that Jameis Winston had been indefinitely suspended from his squad after the two-sport star was cited for shoplifting seafood from a local supermarket. The suspension, which was endorsed by FSU football head coach Jimbo Fisher, would remain in place until the reigning Heisman Trophy winner completed 20 hours of community service required on the legal side of the equation.

Martin confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat Sunday that Winston has been “reinstated” after “[h]e finished his community service” earlier in the day. Winston came straight from completing that stipulation in his citation and was in his baseball uniform for the Seminoles’ game against Minnesota.

The baseball suspension is expected to be the extent of punishment Winston will be facing from the athletic department as the player will not be on the receiving end of any type of punitive measures from his football coach.

Whomever the victim is of the final crime Winston commits, the one that won't be in Tallahassee and will therefore be prosecuted, should be able to sue FSU officials and TPD for enabling this fucking clown.

Theory: Winston copped to crab legs to cover free food setup

Perhaps Jameis Winston wasn’t “shoplifting” after all.

ESPN’s Marcellus Wiley believes Florida State’s reigning Heisman-winning quarterback, who was issued a citation Wednesday for stealing crab legs from the grocery store Publix, only took responsibility for the incident in order to protect the team from a bigger scandal.

Wiley tweeted that he thinks Winston admitted to the minor incident in order to shield the practice of Publix regularly giving free food to players on the team, in violation of NCAA rules.

Investigator: Jameis Winston avoided store security; see LCSO documents

In a statement of apology, the reigning Heisman winner acknowledged in part that he “made a terrible mistake for which I’m taking full responsibility. In a moment of youthful ignorance, I walked out of the store without paying for one of my items.”

Forgot? Consciously and willfully eluded? Somewhere in between? You decide. From the Tallahassee Democrat’s account of the police report:

As he was leaving the store, Winston appeared to pause in front of a Leon County deputy who was working in-store security detail at the time. The pause, the incident report said, appeared to be an attempt to avoid walking in front of the deputy. He said Winston then walked behind the deputy, past all registers and out of the store. A Publix employee told deputies he noticed Winston walk out of the store and assumed he hadn’t paid for his purchase since he didn’t have a grocery bag. He and his manager watched Winston walk out of the store because they thought he was grabbing a shopping cart. They soon realized Winston walked out without paying when he didn’t return.

The seafood clerk who took Winston’s order said the Heisman-winner regularly visits the store and that he gave Winston a bar code price tag on the seafood before he left the counter, the incident report said.

The Democrat writes that “Winston ordered three pounds of steamed crab legs with Old Bay seasoning and one pound of steamed crawfish with Cajun seasoning and then left the store.” Winston did dispute, as he had been accused, stealing butter so he’s got that going for him, which is nice.

Perfect grammar. Verbs all properly conjugated. Anyone who's ever heard this kid speak knows god damned well that he didn't write this [Mark May].

The person who wrote it probably had to explain to the dumbfuck he was actually allowed to take responsibility (as opposed to all the various things he mayor may not have taken without consent up to this point in his criminal career).

An FSU Art Student created an interesting depiction of Mr. Winston in a painting she recently created. It's too vulgar to post in here, but if you want to see it head on over to the Romper Room.

Re: Suspended from Florida State’s baseball teamafter he was cited for shoplifting $32 worth of food from a grocery store, Jameis Winston has released a statement apologizing for the incident; “taking full responsibility” for yet another run-in with the law; and acknowledging, even as he yet again displayed the “youthful ignorance” of a player just coming off his redshirt freshman football season, “that my mistakes are magnified and can bring great embarrassment to all those who support me” and that “my conduct needs to be above reproach.”

I agree. To me "Release a statement" means someone gave (or authorized someone else on his behalf) to give a sheet of paper to the press. His lawyer (or the FSU public relations department) wrote it and gave it to the press. Winston definitely didn't write it, possibly never even saw it, and probably couldn't have read/understand/comprehend it if he had.
