Indians Tidbits (2010 season)

Sounds a lot like Jake Westbrook, also nabbed from the Yankees. If he ends up in that ballpark, it's another Shapiro steal. He may be a moron at drafting and made some unreal FA blunders, but the guy can swindle some teams for vets at deadline time, that's the one area he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

chris antonetti is making the calls now. that's why the draft was so different than what cleveland normally does.

We get it, random blogger gets it, why can't the Cleveland Indians?

Give Masterson a Trial in the Pen - Speaking of consistent, Justin Masterson is not. He?s also hit career-highs in innings pitched this season (145.1 as of today), and has been less than spectacular as a starter. Manny Acta has talked about going to a six-man rotation, but he should do everyone a favor and give Masterson a one-month trial in the pen. I?ve been clamoring for this all season, as he just hasn?t shown the consistency to be a big-league starter. Rather than give Masterson 2 or 3 more starts, why not just toss him in the pen and see if he is any more effective? I know he has more value as a starter, but eventually, you kind of have to be who you are. Justin Masterson has not shown he can be a starter. Let?s see if he?s any better as a reliever.

the problem with that is as such. when masterson sucks, he sucks from the get go. when he's on, he can give you 6-7 good innings. putting him in the pen does nothing to eliminate that issue. there's no point in moving him to the pen, especially since you can't bring him in with anyone on base.

Good lord is this team [censored]...

Barely cracking 10K in attendance at this point. I'll be surprised if they're drawing 8K this time next month.
I remember a game in the late 50s or early 60s where they reported in the Plain Dealer the next day that almost every fan walked away with a foul ball and some fans had two. If the current Indians did not have all of these giveaway deals, they probably would draw an attendance figure in the hundreds also.

Indians Prospect Insider: Rondon Has Tommy John Surgery

I'm just really glad I'm not a Cleveland Indians pitching prospect. :shake:
I know this is entirely different surgery but I hope that he doesn't turn out like Adam Miller. Two of our best pitching prospects.

Rick Manning said on TV the other night that he thought over 50% of Major League pitchers underwent Tommy John surgery. I thought that was awfully high but maybe a lot of guys get it done very early in their careers.

Talbot has come back to earth with a resounding thud. 9-22 (I'm counting tonight as a loss) gets to 100 losses. We'll see. I think I called 95 before the season and they seem to be about on track for that...which considering all the injuries, line up shuffling and the fact that Andy fuckin' Marte is still receiving considerable playing time, is quite an achievement.

I wonder what happened here. The wrong team must have claimed him or were they just finishing.

pd

Jon Heyman of SI.com reported that Fausto Carmona was claimed on waivers and pulled back by the Indians. The Indians would not comment

Acta might want to wait until Carlos pictures a few innings in the major leagues before making such a statement.

pd

"He has the highest ceiling of anybody we have starting for us," said Acta. "We're going to get a chance to see him against Chicago, the Angels and the Twins."

Lula says been back and forth to Cleveland more than a person who works there every day. He must feel like he is on a yo-yo.

pd

The Indians have added Carrasco, reliever Jensen Lewis and outfielder/infielder Jordan Brown from Class AAA Columbus. They bring the major-league roster total to 28.
