Okay. final thoughts on a doomed season (Peralta excepting)...
- Choo very quietly had a fine, fine season: .300, 22 hr, 90 bi, 31 2b, 83 bb, 22 sb. He is now the best player on this roster by far (we'll see how smooth bounces back)
- Pronk's days as a dangerous mlb hitter are without doubt over. Best we can hope for going forward is 110 games, .275, 15 hr, 50 bi and an .850 ops
- AsCab is a solid SS. Probably never be an all star, but if they can get .280-10-60 from him, I'll be happy.
- It's just a damned shame that Smooth went down, he was struggling when he did, but he showed signs of being a potential future all star. I'm excited to see how he bounces back. Hopefully he doesn't suffer any lingering effects, because I can't take much more Marson.
- I'm fairly convinced LaPorta is never going to become the .290-30-100 guy we all hoped. Aside from a torrid couple of weeks in July, he was awful.
- Brantley hit around .300 from September on, so that's encouraging. I don't fully know how he factors into next season, but at least there was progress.
- Please, God...no more Andy Marte.
- We have a closer, which is nice.
- I think there's some decent young arms to fight for a spot to join R. Perez and Sipp in the pen. Hopefully it will improve on the past three years.
- Carmona bounced back nicely all in all, so it's good to be able to count on him to top the rotation.
- After him, it's a crapshoot. I think Carrasco looked decent enough to get a look for the rotation. Talbot was mostly bad following a fast start and is ideally a back of the rotation guy. Tomlin and Gomez had their moments. Gotta assume they're gonna stick with Masterson, hopefully he spends a lot of time in the offseason working on his myriad issues. I gotta think 1.) Carmona, 2.) Talbot, 3.) Masterson, 4.) Carrasco, 5.) Tomlin/Gomez/vet FA? next year. That's probably one of the worst rotations in baseball, but it's what we're working with at this point.
- 2B will probably be a Donald/Valbuena gaggle-fuck.
- I have no clue what happens at 3B.
- I'm counting on nothing from Sizemore until he shows otherwise.

Next year's likely gonna be a long year. Just have to hope guys like Alex White, Hagadone, Weglarz and Chisenhall develop to the point where they can be big league contributors. I'm happy as hell that Shapiro is no longer making the baseball decisions, so that's a big plus going forward, but there's a lot of work to be done. I think next year will be another grudge match with KC to stay out of the cellar.

It won't last. He's a fat, lazy pile of suck. He did (slightly) better because Detroit actually has a ML-calibre batting order around him.

A very nice summary and while I agree with most of it I would like to see Masterson go into the bullpen where he probably could serve the team better.

A major concern of mine is that I don't know if Chin is signed through next year. I am pretty sure that he has one more year remaining because his agent is none other than Boras.

I wonder what you do with Crowe is Grady is healthy come next season. Maybe put him at first base he would have a nice stretch and sit LaPorta:)

Masterson in the pen would be my choice too, but I don't see them doing it. Crowe is best suited as a 4th/5th OF, and that's what he'll be if Sizemore is back.

Not news or anything, just confirmation:

Antonetti is GM, Shapiro is el Presidente.

Here's the thing about Masterson, if he's off, he's off from the get go and is worthless. When he's on, he'll give you 6+ solid innings. The very nature of his inconsistency actually makes him more suited for a #4-5 starter. It's only due to the weakness of this rotation that he's probably Cleveland's #3 guy.

This will be Dolan's dream offseason as Cleveland has young guys that have gotten playing time all over the place, so there will be no need to actually spend any money. There are only 3 places in which it would make financial sense to invest substantial money.

1. LF power hitter. Make Brantley #4 OF.
2. 1B Power hitter. Laporta rides the bench.
3. Top of the rotation starting pitcher. Good luck with that.

It makes no financial sense to invest in the bullpen, utility IF, or to fork over substantial cash for a pedestrian 3rd baseman.

Really, just roll with the following lineup:

1. Brantley - Lf
2. AsCab - SS
3. Choo - RF
4. Santana - C
5. Hafner - DH
6. Sizemore - CF
7. Laporta - 1st
8. Whoever - 3rd
9. Donald - 2nd

I'd even be open to swapping Sizemore and Laporta. Sizemore simply K's way too much to lead off, and until he proves he can be what he was in '05-'07 again, he shouldn't be any higher in the lineup.

NFBuck;1785508- Carmona bounced back nicely all in all said:
I think you are selling Masterson short. He was very good down the stretch. Also, don't forget this was his 1st full year as a starter. He finished top 40 in baseball in xFIP which takes into account the Tribe's shoddy infield defense. Behind him on that list were notables such as David Price, Clay Buchholz, Matt Cain and Fausto Carmona. The guy is great at inducing groundballs and also maintains a decent strikeout rate which is a pretty rare combo. I'll take Carmona, Masterson, Carrasco and let the rest battle it out for the last two spots. I actually think they have the makings of a decent rotation.
