the Indians helped drop Bergesen's ERA from 6.26 to 5.84

this team is a bum pitchers dream
I don't know if you'd listened to the game or not but his ERA is high mainly because he pitched a lot of games against other teams in the Eastern Division and those teams have some hitters. His ERA against non-Eastern division teams teams is very respectable. The Indians were bad, admittedly, but this guy is not as bad as you are making them out to be.

another nice start for Jeanmar Gomez

6 IP 6 H 1 ER 0 BB 3 K

3-0 1.54 ERA 1.07 WHIP 12 K 5 BB in 4 starts (23.1 IP)

hopefully him and tomlin can at least keep being decent, and not get totally exposed and crap out like Sowers

Number five hitter tonight? Trevor Crowe. Jesus, I wouldn't pay ten dollars to watch this team...

ha. and i paid $40 for 2 tickets right on the right field line to see kansas city, only because i was hoping to see santana and some of the young guys.

but overall, this season is playing out exactly how it should. cleveland dumped a lot of unproductive salary. they got to see some young guys that have shown they can handle the big league level in donald and santana. chris perez has settled into the closer's role nicely, and frank hermann has shown flashes of being tough.

however, tony sipp and raffy left have still been erratic. masterson has either been very good or very bad, circa 09 carmona. valbuena is a flop and david huff is a batting practice pitcher.

it will be interesting to see if cleveland spends some cash in the offseason to get viable players here, or if they try picking off the scrap heap and letting the young guys get some run.

Never thought I'd see the day where a pitcher intentionally walked someone TO GET to Hafner.

Apparently he wasn't a fan and decided to go "Pronk" on them. Grand Slam. 6-0 Tribe.

Masterson gave 6 innings of 1 hit ball, 3 Ks, but 6 walks and 100 pitches ...why do I feel like that may be this kid's ceiling?

edit- and Nix goes back-to-back.

Huh, and I didn't even have to bad mouth him in this thread. Weird.

He'll never be anything more than he currently is as a starting pitcher. He's too wildly inconsistent. Even when he has a "good" outing, he often has alarming control issues. He's best suited for middle relief IMO.

Yes.

Indians sign their top 6 draft picks, including #5 pick Drew Pomeranz.

Very excited to see them get the deals done. I'd much rather fork over the little amount of rookie money to keep these young talents than waste cash on veteran free agents.

Indians Prospect Insider: 2010 Draft Signings Update: Final Signing, Draft Thoughts

In the end, the Indians spent somewhere between $9-10M on the bonuses for all 27 signed picks, which I believe is a club record for bonuses paid in a draft for them (though unconfirmed). It's nice to see this, and they made good on their promise this year that they would not only have an aggressive draft, but an aggressive signing process as well.

The Indians have also signed outfielder LeVon Washington (2nd round) and shortstop Tony Wolters (3rd round). Washington signed for $1.2M and Wolters for $1.35M.

The Indians aggressive approach both with the draft and getting guys signed really showed itself in the end. Here are some of the final numbers:

Pomeranz $2.65M
Washington $1.2M
Wolters $1.35M
Blair $580K
Cook $299K
Bartolone $125K
Aviles $150K
Lavisky $1.0M
Cooper $125K
Holt $500K
Goodnight $315K
Dischler $255K
Bradley $125K

That totals: $8.674M

I have no idea on the contracts signed by other picks Jones, Cannon, Seastrunk, Siliga, Burnette, Dew, Striz, Thompson, Petter, Casas, Heere, Fields, and Dunn, but all were likely much lower deals. In all the Indians spent somewhere north of $9M on the draft this year.

I wonder if this kid from St. Edwards is going to be a pitcher or catcher. Nevermind. They are two different individuals. Lavinsky signed with the Indians.
"I can't tell you what a great day this has been," said Lavisky, the St. Edward catcher who was the 240th player selected. "It's been one of the best days, if not the best, of my life. I got drafted by my hometown team. I received the kind of money I was looking for. I'll get an opportunity to play close to home next year. It's all been very special. It's unique, rare and ... awesome."

Lavisky, who batted .450 with 13 home runs, nine doubles and 40 runs batted in last spring, will leave Tuesday for the final 12 days of the Arizona rookie league in Goodyear, and will participate in the Arizona fall instructional league, Sept. 22-Oct. 14. Lavisky, 6-1, 210 pounds, said the Indians plan on assigning him to Lake County next spring.

Un-fucking-believable. They have the easiest stretch of schedule this year and they crap the bed.

Seattle 1-2
Baltimore 1-2
Kansas City 0-2

2-6 combined against the 3 of the 4 worst teams in the AL.

Who's the fourth of the four worst teams in the AL? :paranoid:
