We could use an energy guy since losing Coombs and hopefully he can step into position and recruiting.
Seems like an OJT opportunity for him as far as recruiting and DBs.

I genuinely don’t understand why people put so much stock in websites giving credit to certain coaches for recruiting players.

Again, everyone should go look at Kevin Wilson’s 247 page and note that he is given credit for Zach Harrison’s recruitment which is ridiculous.

Shortly after this people should forget any value they had previously put into these trackers.

Barnes might be able to recruit; he might not be. But let’s not use the total number of players the internet gives him credit for to judge that.

To add on, I think people are substantially over valuing Studrawa as a recruiter based on who he is given credit for by the internet. People who track these things closely don’t seem overly impressed with him, and that is substantially more meaningful evaluation tool IMO.

Elite:
Larry Johnson
Brian Hartline
Al Washington
Jeff Hafley

Good:
Tony Alford
Greg Mattison

Mostly unknown but probably okay:
Kevin Wilson

Mostly unknown but probably not great:
Greg Studrawa

Mostly unknown (but fingers crossed):
Ryan Day
Matt Barnes
Mike Yurcich

We saved a boat load of cash when Raymond turned us down.

I find it curious that neither Stud or Wilson has been “confirmed” to be coming back.

Personally, I’m down for taking the windfall we saved with the Barnes hire and throwing it at a knock out OL coach.

How is Washington elite, but Alford isn't? Alford has pulled a number of too FL kids to say the least

The same reason Kevin Wilson is listed under “mostly unknown but probably okay”. The same Kevin Wilson responsible for offenses featuring two Heisman winners (Jason White and Sam Bradford) and several All Americans including Adrian Peterson, Jason White, Mark Clayton, Sam Bradford, Jermaine Gresham, and a solid number of OL.

We recognize that coaching and running an offense is different than recruiting, yes?

Recent buzz over what an amazing job Washington did with Harrison and the ravages of time fading my memory of any examples of Alford doing the same.

Although Steele Chambers and Marcus Crowley might be great, they are both lower than quite a few other RBs Ohio State was “in” on this cycle.

Was it regionally based and other guys on staff missed those RB prospects? Maybe.

Did we genuinely value those two over the more highly rated prospects? Maybe.

But, that is the recent history that is guiding my subjective opinion on this.
