Well, Gianacakos just pledged to Sparty, despite being an Illini legacy. ThaKid off to his usual success rate.

Nostradumbass was predicting 3 Illini 1st rounders this year...Hawthorne (called him top-10), Thornton, and somebody else. First Illini picked? Thornton, late 3rd round. Oops. :(

First of all, his name is ThaKid. Second, if you keep hammering away at his brave but only slightly off base projections, you won't have him around to watch and enjoy. Besides, most of his other predictions will likely come true.

Just wait. You'll see.

By the way, his predictions are very Illinios-esque.

Since I have some free time, here's a little update on the "very Miami-esque" Illini recruiting train. Current commits:

NR ** WR (Army, assorted FCS offers)
#39 *** RB (MAC, Syracuse, Boston College, Kansas, Indiana Offers)
#101 *** WR (Ball State, Nortwestern Offers)
NR ** OLB (Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas Offers)
NR ** MLB (Army and assorted FCS offers)
NR JC TE (No other offers reported)
#51 *** QB (No other offers reported)
#71 *** WR (Other offer? North Dakota)
NR *** C (Juggalo, NIU Offers)
#63 *** DT (MAC Offers)

So, thus far they have ONE player ranked in the Top-50 at his position...the #39 RB (per scout). Scout currently has them as the #55 class, behind such powerhouses as WSU, Duke, SDSU, Temple, and Western M*ch*g*n. They have 3 kids that have received BCS offers per the scout database, and the best of them are the Juggaloes, Boston College and Syracuse.

I'd almost feel bad for them if it wasn't for how obnoxious that fanbase became after 2007. Congrats on becoming the conference doormat. By the looks of current, and the past few years recruiting, it's gonna be a lengthy stay.

did anybody else read the article about Zook now working at a bank in Florida? The dude could recruit, I can't believe he still isn't at a school somewhere as a recruiting specialist or something.
I think this point is greatly exaggerated. In fact, Zook's lack of recruiting ability is a big reason their roster is a dumpster fire right now. He had two pretty good classes at Illinois...2007 & 2008. They were ranked #20 and #19 respectively nationally (per scout). Following that, he recruited the #35, #57, and #40 classes in '09-'11. The 2012 class he started was a disaster. For a supposed "good recruiter" sitting a hotbed of talent, he did pretty poorly overall. He built his rep on two classes that, in all reality, he failed to capitalize on. A point could be made that Mike Locksley was more responsible for their "big gets" in those classes than Zooker. It's not a coincidence their recruiting took a significant turn for the worse when he left. He rarely beat out ND, scUM, or tOSU for players. Hell, by the end of his tenure, he was bleeding in state guys to Northwestern, Iowa, and Wiscy too.

The Zook recruiting myth is just that...a myth.

I could see where Locksley was behind Zook's recruiting. He pulled in a few of the high profile recruits for Illinois, one of which was stealing Arellious Benn from Notre Dame. He was definitely a better recruiter than head coach though, he really took a dump when he left for New Mexico.
