If defensive staff changes are coming, who should OSU be looking to hire?

I'm a proud hypocrite when it comes to college football. There's no room for intellectual honesty or ideological purity in this sport when it comes to supporting your team.

Somebody else already mentioned it, but it's worth it to take a look at the reactions in the comments of other coaches and in comments by former Buckeye players who camped at PSU or were recruited by Johnson. The praise is unequivocal from what I've seen so far. Why does that carry less weight than some semi-anonymous decade-old message board rumors?
Kids getting their asses kissed by the recruiter had nice things to say about him? You don't say.

You're assuming he had a role in the coverup.
Yes, I am.

Although, from all accounts, he had no idea it was going on.
I've got some land to sell you in Florida.

It started before he even became an employee at PSU.
That matters because...

What you "simply see" isn't factual.
And you know this because...

Just based on personal dislike.
Now you're getting somewhere. And that dislike extends to the entire coaching staff and everyone else involved in the cover-up.

I would hate, and that is putting it mildly, the hire of LJ if it is made. However, saying that, and some of you are not going to like this but about a month ago I read a post on another board that had the number of DL and OL players there were recruited by Meyer at BG, Utah, and Florida and of all the recruits there are not many that are in the NFL. He has a few skilled position players in the NFL but not many linemen both offensively and defensively.

I haven't been keeping up with all of the off-season stuff, but is there definitely going to be a Co-DC, or will UFM let Fickell run the defense, and the next hire will simply be for a position coach?

Meyer has said he will employ another Co-DC. There is rampant speculation on what that actually means. Is Johnson made Co-DC and they simply hire a safeties coach (I hope not)? If they hire a Co-DC as safeties coach, does that person take charge of the defense or does Fickell still lead. I for one am hoping for a home run hire in the secondary who can take over leadership of the defense.

Just to clarify a few facts:

1. LJ, Sr began coaching at PSU in 1996, so he coached for four years under Jer Bear and was part of the program when McQuery heard "rhythmic slapping sounds." Obviously, I don't know what he knew or should have known for sure, but he was there.

2. LJ, Jr. didn't come to PSU until 1999, so it's highly unlikely that PSU hired LJ, Sr. just to get LJ. Jr.

Now for a bit of opinion. OSU and most of us knew when hiring Meyer that we'd be getting an uber-competitor who'd pull out all the legal (at a minimum) stops to win. Here's your proof, for better or worse. Given how sleazy the entire business of college football is, I can hold my nose and enjoy the wins up to and until OSU covers up crimes or allows systemic academic fraud. If either of those things happen, I'm done and will find another hobby. Also, I hope that Meyer has enough integrity to tell LJ, Sr. that playing the race card in recruiting doesn't fly here. We'll see.

But the abuse apparently started back in the 70's/80's. Pretty easy to cover it from people who were hired after it began.

But I can definitely see your point.
