In addition to the two reasons that have already been mentioned, I dated a girl who was born and raised in State College. Both of her parents worked at the university, her father was a professor. They all knew the Johnsons, and Paternos personally, and the consensus opinion in that family, who I respected, were that both nearly every member of both the Johnson and Paterno families were pompous megalomaniacs, an generally just pretentious, truculent, assholes. Apparently, amongst the faculty, there was a deep resentment for Paterno and the coaching staff. If what I understood to be true about Larry Johnson as a person, long before the Sandusky crimes were discovered, I wouldn't want that guy within 1000 yards of the Ohio State campus, let alone on the coaching staff. FWIW, I guess Tony Johnson isn't near the prick his father or older brother are, but he's also not the favorite son.
