If the NCAA accepts what is currently in place then I say let's get on with it. That wouldn't warrant resignation in my mind.

If, however, they strip our wins from 2010 and suspend JT for the 2011 season, then it is over in my mind. His reputation would be damaged beyond repair, for at least as long as he stayed at tOSU. It would bring tOSU's reputation down with him as a result, and I would find that unacceptable.

Unfortunately, I think we're heading for the latter rather than the former.

The allegations said that Tressel "failed to deport himself in accordance with the honesty and integrity normally associated with the conduct and administration of intercollegiate athletics."

The N.C.A.A. also indicated it considers this a potential second violation, after the former quarterback Troy Smith was found to have received $500 from a booster in 2005, which could lead to stiffer penalties, including a postseason ban and loss of scholarships.

We may have seen the last game with Coach Tressel on the tOSU sidelines. Given my level of disappointment in his apparent handling of this situation I have mixed emotions about that possibility at the moment, but it would sure be a sad way for it to end. We'll see how things go this summer.

I really don't want to see Tressel go out like this. He's given too much to this university during his time here. I believe he deserves a better exit.

I would like for Ohio State to stand behind him and let him coach out this season and the next with the expectation that he'll retire after 2012. Obviously that can't happen with a season-long suspension or a show-cause order... I hope we don't see that.

I agree that this could very well be the end of the JT era and that disappoints me greatly (despite my dislike of his offensive philosophies and loyalty to Bollman). At this point from what we have to go on, I think he's earned the chance to resign with some dignity in tact and that I think he'll take it.

That said, my overall feeling hasn't changed. He's just a football coach at OSU, he isn't OSU football and he damn sure isn't OSU. They fired every coach before him, they'll likely fire everyone after him and if they fire Tressel tomorrow I'm fine with it, he brought this on himself.

I tend to agree Jax. I still think Jim Tressel is a good man, but he made some incredibly poor choices that reflect poorly on himself, the program, and the university as a whole. I used to think the day Tressel stepped down would be a very dark one, now I kind of hope he's allowed to go with some dignity as the good he's done FAR outweighs the bad. Ohio State football is bigger than it's coach and it will be fine after him.

All of these fans from other teams jumping up and down hi-fiving each other may not like what they get. They want Tressel out but his replacement might not skip a beat. I think Bo or Urban will be our coach in 2012. IMO Tressel will be further punished and I agree his rep is done. We know he did good things but nobody outside of Columbus gives a shit and they are relishing this...I hope we run the table this year...

I will say this...JoePa lost alot of respect from me with his jab at JT. I wouldn't talk shit about a guy who owned me on the field.

To Michigan fans...Better fucking pray Urban Meyer is not hired because that guy doesn't have the class Tressel does. He will score 56 on you like JT could have the last 3-4 years.

Bo who?

Bo Davis?
Bo Meeks?
Bo McMillin?

Cause you won't see Bo Pelini coach there, LOL. If we were still in the Big 12, maybe. But not now.

Besides - with what I'm hearing about Columbus' local media, he'd eat those guys livers.

Yep, there's a thread on HuskerBoard (started by a Colorado fan, no less) about whether we should be worried about Pelini leaving if The Vest is ousted. There's no way Ohio State is going after Pelini, not when he has no track record of winning anything big. Much as I love Bo, there are far bigger names out there that you guys will be after, if necessary.

But is there anything new?

My first post here....Go BUCKEYES!

I read the Letter of Allegation and I am amazed with all of the "well he's done now" type comments that I have read today. To me, it reads like nothing more than a discovery request in a civil lawsuit. The only two things I learned were: 1) Coach spoke to the FBI, and 2) that the NCAA will apparently not seek lack of institutional oversight allegations against the University.

Honest question here: does anyone know anything about the conversations with the FBI? Apparently Smith thinks they add fuel to JT's fire; but without knowing the nature of those conversations...I guess I need somebody to help me understand why?

I may be the last man standing with coach T, but I wouldn't do anything based on a letter of allegation. Do the potential sanctions become worse if he remains? Will the class of 2012 be compromised if he remains?

As my first post, I will tell you how there are 2 OSU games that have left a mark on my life that I will never forget. They are:

1969 - MI, my father put his right foot through our B/W television in a 24-12 loss that left me with the clear understanding of the importance of Ohio State football. Everything in life became crystal clear.

2002 - Nat. Champ - I'll never forget where I was for this game. I was at Mayo Clinic, my younger of two children had been diagnosed with CA just 40 days before. I was in the children's hospital watching the game...and couldn't control myself...I was a little loud. The nurses came into the room...I thought I'd get a major tongue lashing....but they were laughing, and said they needed more people to get excited up there. I had everyone in MN cheering for Ohio State that night.

And so began the Tressel era. It hasn't been a real easy period in my life personally, but I have always been able to wait until fall, because Tressel's gonna make us proud again this year...and he has never failed. An era of handing those inbreeds to the north their backsides 9 of 10 seasons in a row. An era of Ohio State greatness unmatched in my lifetime.

There are many other games I could place here; like watching a game as a kid from the field and standing right behind Archie Griffin. Or going to several games in Ann Arbor, or meeting Arnie Jones who went to Wayne where I grew up...they are countless.

But, to me I benchmark my own life with Ohio State Football. I can remember the teams that have pulled me thorugh tough times; and I gotta tell you I am not ready to see Coach Tressel go. Yes, OSU Football is bigger than any one person; and yes, the school and the program do come before any coach or player. But Tressel's leadership of this program has BLESSED MY LIFE...20% of my life to date with OSU victories that I will never forget...and an Ohio State team that always competes. Who can say that about the Earl Bruce years?

From another source with a timeline for FSU's last NCAA investigation - an academic fraud problem with on-line tests and tutors that was, like y'all, self reported.
-Feb. 13: FSU submits its final investigative report to the NCAA. FSU takes six "punitive actions," including the placement of its athletic department on two years' probation and the reduction of an unspecified number of scholarships in multiple sports. (Your March letter to the NCAA and the internal punishment of Tress - the $250 large and the game suspensions)
- June 10: The NCAA serves Florida State with a notice of allegation, which FSU refuses to release, citing student privacy laws. (Y'all just received your NOA last Friday)
- Sept. 12: FSU releases to the public its formal written response to the NCAA's notice of allegation, which charged the school with failing to monitor its academic support program, accused two university employees of unethical conduct and said the university failed to respond to a registrar's report that questioned the academic performance of athletes in the online class. (You have yet to respond, but it will not take long)
- Oct. 18: FSU officials appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions in Indianapolis. (The upcoming August hearing)
- Today: The NCAA releases its ruling on sanctions in the case. (March the following year)
I do not post it for the similarity or seriousness of infraction, but for the time line aspect.

If this follows that time line you will be notified in January of the NCAA's ruling. That seems long to me, as the FSU case was more serious and the number of programs and athletes involved were much greater. If they wait that long to rule it will be a frustrating thing. If the NCAA wants to hurt you via post-season ban, they would better rule by late November in order not to let you got to another BCS bowl in early 2012. I hope you get - at most - a few games vacated and not any schollies or post-season bowl bans. I really hope that. Maybe a few more conference game suspensions for Tress (to make it more than five and get into the core of your B10 schedule) would be fair - but that would be the worse that they do.

I see no need to fire Tress, nor do I see the end of the world. I thought some folks were in denial, but that is to be expected. I thought the meager two game ban for Tress was insulting, but now that his matches the kids I think that is OK as a minimum. I'd add on a few more games suspension for Tress punking the NCAA in December by his silence, but anything more than that would be unfair - IMO.

If this is the end of JT, sadness rather than any sense of satisfaction is what I'll feel. Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that is where the university needs to go with this.

I agree 100% with what you wrote. I think "the end" will take a while, this is just the beginning of it.
