HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

With a healthy Miyan they're significantly better running the ball

... this is the first mention of Miyan and changes the conversation entirely.
We were talking about JSN "changing everything about this offense", and to a lesser extent Treveyon.

The short passing game is much more effective with JSN's ability to get seperation and he's much more effective at making something out of nothing on screens. JSN completely changes the spacing of a defense and can move around the field to get mismatches. Play calls look much smarter when your 3rd WR is Egbuka instead of Fleming who is mostly just proficient at running streaks downfield.

I feel like this part is exaggerated.
Would it be great to have two #1 WRs on the field? Obviously. But this offense' problem isn't a lack of weapons.

No. This offense is lacking rhythm and balance and it's an offense almost entirely based off of it.

This have been slightly out of whack all year. It started with the JSN injury, then the running back injuries meant no one got into any type of sustainable rhythm.

We've stopped ourselves a ton with penalties too this year it seems like to go along with everything you've said.

I think the lack of hurry up has contributed to our lack of rhythm.

I mentioned Miyan because the troubles started when both Henderson and especially him were hurt and were the issue with the running game. Was the running game, or an offense, an issue before that?

Guess we'll disagree on that being exaggerated. Especially if the offense is expected to carry the team and run like a well oiled machine. JSN was more than just another #1 WR. The passing offense, at least in the Rose Bowl, was designed around getting him mismatches by moving him all over and using the chemistry between he and CJ to routinely complete crazy throws and get first downs.

As well as EE played, he and CJ were never fully on the same page. Fleming is a rotation guy that hasn't earned CJ's trust and there wasn't anyone else the staff trusted to get major playing time. That doesn't sound like a team overflowing with WRs ready to step up and play at the highest level.

It's not that they can't be explosive and get yards. On a great day they can put up 500+ yards and 40 points against any defense. But the margin for error is razor thin against top teams. They were still able to get ~320 yards on Michigan in the first half, but got bogged down in the RZ. Some of that due to playcalling, but you really don't think having JSN converts one of those FGs to a TD and gets a 4th down conversion for another? I definitely think he's worth 11 points and momentum in any game.

I haven’t understood the lack of playing time for Hayden with the injuries to Henderson and Williams. Hayden has proven himself throughout the season. I know Day has said Alford makes the player calls, but I think I would be overriding him if it were me.

Over the last few years I have given Day the benefit of the doubt with being able to call a good game plan. After watch the NFL over the last few weeks… how did we not score 50 plus points a game in 2019-2020? Those rosters were absolutely loaded. Our WR room for Justin Fields were Olave, Wilson, Jameson Williams, & JSN. He had an incredible line with Dobins and Sermon. Not to mention solid TE play.

If Day couldn’t win with those rosters what makes you think he can win with this roster? 2019 we lost on a BS call against Clemson. 2020 we got revenge on Clemson, but got our doors blown off by Bama. I hope I’m way off, but his offense has not progressed. If anything it’s gotten way too predictable. If I can see it watching games I can only imagine what other d coordinators see.
