HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I was out of town all weekend and haven't read all the threads so I apologize if this is redundant. I am also not sure where to put this, so if there is a better location for it, mods, please feel free to relocate.

While spending 8 hours on the road yesterday, I had a chance to put the emotion of the game behind me and think about things. Here is what I came up with...

Right now, we are a soft football program. Soft. We are over-hyped, entitled and feel like insist we should be able to get calls and wins just because of who we are. We are exactly who we've always made fun of ttun for being. We are a soft program right now. On Saturday, ttun came out and punched our guys in the mouth and instead of getting pissed and asserting our dominance, we backed down. Then they really started kicking our ass. There was nothing magical about ttun's gameplan, they just lined up and ran the ball down our throats. Everyone knew exactly what was coming and we had no response. Their guys beat our guys because they wanted it more. Now, I'm old enough to remember the late 80's and the 90's where this shit happened every damn year. I'm confident that Day will respond. He'd better, because I know he wont get 13 years to match 2-10-1.......

That said, I am old enough to remember most of the Buckeye losses over the past 30-35 years. I remember 63-14 in 94. I remember all 10 (and that 1) of 2-10-1. I remember Sparty in 98. Brees to Morales in 2000. Juice Williams in '03. 41-14 & 38-24. USC, USC & Texas. Most of 2011. Sparty, Clemson & Sparty again. PSU and the damned blocked fg. Clemson 31-0. Iowa & Purdue on the road. Clemson again. Bama last year. ttun this year. There are others of course, but the point is this: we've taken a few losses over the years, but not nearly as many as other teams have. Every one sucked, but they're absolutely necessary in order to appreciate all the wins that have come between them. You can't forget them. Forgetting them means you've lost for nothing. Learn from them. Make the changes that are necessary to avoid repeating them. I've been a Bucks fan for the past 35 years; I'm not quitting now.

Go Bucks!!

I keep saying this loss felt most like The Game 2003 and in context of the Rivalry, it does. In context of all OSU losses in my lifetime and Ryan Day however, this feels like Darkest Day when I sat there and watched Indifuckingana run the ball down an OSU teams throat. I still say that was pretty much it for Earle. Everyone liked him but you can't have that kind of shit at OSU.

Ryan Day just had his Darkest Day in The Game. He better do everything he possibly can to make sure there is no Darkest Day II.
He won't survive it.

I made the 2003 comparison in another thread. Felt like SCUM ran for a zillion yards that day and Tress took that shit personally for 6 years straight.

Going to be REALLY interesting to see how Day responds. If the rumors that nearly the entire defensive staff is gone then that’s an encouraging sign. Stud also heavily rumored to be gone is another great sign.

Ya they played like a bunch of pussies for the biggest game of the year.... I hope they are a embarrassed and come out next year with BIGTEN toughness.

Remember the 2019 team ( Days 1st year as HC). Day nonstop talked about being bold and playing tough. And that team had some fire behind them. They routinely jacked people up with hits and loved contact. They were the ones throwing the haymakers early. And so Day just has to think back to what made them mean and aggressive. I think the talent is there 100% at all positions ( maybe not LB ) to go undefeated and roll MFers. But not if you can't fire off the ball like Oregon or TTUN games.

I think we may be confusing toughness with the benefits of a competent defensive coordinator.
NO, but maybe with having a Freakazoid in Chase Young destroy everything is clouding my judgement. Also I always thought Dobbins was a tough MOFO. Just need some tough upperclassmen to lead.

That Covid year messed up college football bigtime. Honestly Day did a pretty good job only loosing 2 games IMO. OSU, CLemson, and Alabama all were so young because they all had such insane talent they lost them to the NFL, while smaller schools or blue shit hole teams kept their upperclassmen for another year. . OSU was really really young... Lost our starting safety to a horrible leg injury early on et et.. Now just need to come back next year ready to KILL!

Day is one of the best Coaches in CFB but he is still on a learning curve. Bama (Saban) is having a down year despite their record. Clemson (Dabo) has lost three games this year. Oklahoma (Riley) has struggled this year. It applies to other coaches and teams as well.

I do think the point of the team being soft is a fair assessment. And Day has made a number of questionable calls. Like in the first quarter they run the ball down the field to the 2 or 3 yard line then Day gets cute with the play calling and ends up kicking a FG.

Thankfully these are all fixable things. Hopefully Day gets the ship back on course. Otherwise we become the new Oklahoma.

Completely changed the complexion of the game. If we punch them back in the mouth by running that in, it's a ballgame. When we got cute like you correctly stated they could smell blood in the water. Should have imposed our will and given the Defense something to anchor itself to. 100% on Ryan Day on that drive.
