HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I would love to see a few games of Stroud running a zone read. I don’t want him running 10-15 times a game but a handful of games 3-5 of those wouldn’t be a bad thing. I think we’ve seen a few times that if he keeps it he’s got an open field for an easy first down. Just need him to slide and protect himself. But yes Henderson easily needs to be getting 15-20 Carrie’s a game and hopefully Williams can come back healthy for most of if not all of next year and give us a good 2 deep to run weekly.
Nah they need to create an offense that doesn’t need the threat of a running QB to work. If Bama can have an effective running game with Mac fuckin Jones at QB, no reason why we can’t.

Bama had some amazing OL that were built for run blocking as well! We didn't this year and many talked about it, and the staff never made the changes because they were happy with the passing game success

We saw Stroud try to escape collapsing pockets, do so slowly and take sacks where jt, Justin, Braxton, terrell, troy would have all escaped.

They also ran a tiny amount of option vs Nebraska and it also went poorly. He's just not that athletic nor a natural operator of the option. The latter is a key. Terrelle and Braxton weren't either, which is why JT suddenly had a lot more longer runs than them despite possessing half the foot speed.

Maybe he could infrequently take open 5 yd gains, but the defense wants him to do it. It also will stop him from making throws like he did a few times yesterday when buying time.

I think this goes here, seems like the best fit. Don’t necessarily agree on the S&C stuff but it does beg the question of them getting their shit pushed in on both sides of the line

OSU has a finesse offense. If they lose the line, the system isn't going to work. The way to disrupt the OSU offense is to punch them in the mouth like Meatchicken did. It throws the rhythm out of sync.

I think the issue is the youth this year really showed big time.

The talent at times showed itself, but when they got flustered, it just rolled on. That is something youth does.

We got Field after he had a year in the hot seat with GA, where he was prone to throw interceptions.

Maturity makes a different team.

Yeah not sure on the S&C stuff. Like I can’t imagine it’s fallen off that much in such a short amount of time with basically the same staff.

Play calling I’m not knowledgeable enough to judge. Looking forward to 11Ws (painful) breakdown.

Problem with your post, is that the most senior part of our team was the OL and DL! And they were the weakest parts of the team! No push on the OL made our RBs obsolete. And no DL push allowed scUM to run all over us

I think the physicality part was more of a question of mentality than strength and conditioning.

Although, since it appears a full on review of the coaching staff (sans Hartline) is warranted, might as well look at the S&C program too.

I don’t think it’s a shot at Mariota as much as it is the Athletic Department and how it’s currently structured.

Amongst those “in the know” it seems there’s some frustration over corners being cut and a feeling where we’re trying to save dollars, it’s directly hurting Football team. As an FYI Mariota is technically “Assistant AD, Director of Football”.

There’s your problem! Marcus Mariota is running our S&C!

When did Marotti get let go?

Yes, but many are not experienced. The OL needs retuned. Hopefully Day gets rid of Stud. The DL I think is scheme. Something is off there big time.

There were some yungins on the OL, for example Jackson.

On the DL we have some players in the wings who will definitely wreak havoc. Just need for them to be put in a position to succeed.

I guess we are in a wait and see mode.

With that said, Day shows that he is about self preservation, so I would be surprised if there aren't some big changes coming.

I've been reading some boards as well as BP, and comments from other sites, and it sure is disappointing how after our 3rd loss in 2yrs, the fan base sounds like the Finebaum show after a Bama loss. My God there are so many whiney babies who act like losses do t happen in sports! OSU can still finish the season with a W in the bowl game and figure out our coaching future along with schemes. We lost to scUM for the 1st time in 10yrs and a segment of our fan base sounds like scUM fans who annually got their shit pushed in! There are some of us who have kids, and they've only seen 2 losses in the game in their lives. Just think about that. The program is still in good hands with Ryan Day and the offense, and I'd guess 1-2 defensive hires could make a world of difference

Gotcha. Sad to hear if true. Maybe we need to go the Bama route and get a zillion assistants.
