HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Which coach has proven that he can win big games at Ohio State? Urban Meyer ain't coming back, so who you got?
What are we paying the AD for if not to conduct searches and make those hiring decisions? If we whiff on Day's replacement, we try again. Just like we whiffed on Cooper after Earle before landing Tressel. You keep trying until you find the right guy

I wanted Jax to be wrong. But... he's not wrong.

Pretty much in same camp as you two. I was full on board that we shouldn’t run off Day because his luck in ‘coin flips’ (UGA semifinal, Clemson semifinal, etc) was bad. Felt somewhat vindicated as the one guy I would have wanted (DeBoer) last year showed his own warts at the elite level.

However as a Cooper survivor, I stand by what I said after last year’s Game. This one was a must win.

I’ll begrudgingly take Day back as a defending NC (no I don’t expect that to happen). Anything short of that, it’s time to move on. Even if it’s not the most logical choice. No one out there excites me or gives me confidence they could do better than Day. Lanning is Day 2.0.

But I’d rather miss and have the down period that we are way overdue for if it comes down to that or reliving Cooper 2.0.

Earle + Coop was 22 seasons of "whiffing". I'm not sure that I have 22 seasons left on earth. You gotta do better than that....

Real talk if you can somehow talk Saban into coming back for a few years, I'd take it lol.

Fans aren’t patient. If you don’t immediately win and field a NC caliber team next year, you get a chance for this to turn into an Alabama-esque situation. They’re already calling for his head and they most definitely did take 2-3 steps back this year. You no longer get to keep trying and trying again. If you don’t make the immediate splash, you’re shit out of luck and may not get another chance to try again(speaking of the AD only).

I dont think Day should be fired. And I'm not claiming to be a scheme guru but it is ridiculous how much they much tried to run inside when that was literally the one disadvantage they had
THIS is my frustration from todays game.
First, the “win the rushing battle” is misleading in that it’s more correlation than causation. When you get a lead you’re more likely to milk clock and get your yardage that way. It contributes to teams stubbornly running the ball early, even more maddening when OSU had a clear advantage at WR. Add a coaching staff who is obsessed with showing that they’re “tough” and you end up with todays result.

Serious question; has Urban ever said he would not come back and coach Ohio State again? I mean us specifically.
I know he's alluded to not being interested in coaching again blah....blah....blah...

But lots of coaches have said that and then they're back on the sidelines with a fat(er) bank account.

So is it a written in stone no or a wink...wink...nod...nod, no...?

It matters to me. It actually remains to be seen whether it matters where it counts, the folks that control the money bags. It will actually be interesting to see what happens, if tOSU makes a deep playoff run. Win a natty and sure, Day's job is safe, but how much faith do you have that he won't turn turtle when the pressure is on in the playoffs.

Either way, even if they win it all this year, I won't be buying a national championship t-shirt.
2015 MSU

Today

Which game do you have for worst offensive game plan/play calling?

I’m legit torn
My exact sentiments. I was at that game. We actually lost to a shitty QB that year too….from Lima, Ohio.

True, but at least Earle was 5-4 against scUM. Since Hayes took over in '51 (73 years ago) we've had two permanent head coaches (not counting the one-year that Fickell was head coach) who've had losing records against them: Cooper and now Day.

This is the kind of loss that could potentially send the program to 99-2001 mediocrity if they don’t make a smart decision but Day is clearly not the guy unless you are ok with losing to scUM every year “because he made the playoff still” this guy isn’t winning 4 games against better teams to win it all.
Send it ? I think we’ve arrived already.
